I'm not sure why Apple has more, but keep in mind that Steve Jobs is the single largest shareholder of Disney due to Disney buying Pixar. So I would expect that some of those HD movies on ATV are Disney titles.

This is going to improve. We just need patience.
Steve Jobs doesn't explain why Cable, and Sat companies have these in HD and Vudu doesn't and this is a Warner's title.

Who has more HD availability on New Titles, Apple or VUDU?

Re: Question about Rent vs Purchase

I think it's more of a case of the content providers playing with the distrubtion channels to analyze the demographic response. I think the folks at Vudu will gladly publish HD versions whenever the studio makes them available. The studios are just being slow to totally embrace the new media - practically glacier speed from our perspectives. Given that the studios and their lawyers like to live at tectonic speed, they consider their glacial responses to be wild and crazy. In time I'm confident they will come around and behave the same way as Warner, which has taken the lead with digital delivery (independent studios not considered for this statement).

Re: Question about Rent vs Purchase

Thanks for the reply. I still am wondering what decides what HD VUDU decides to carry. For instance, I have both Dish and Direct and both are offering movies such as I am Legend in HD PPV while VUDU only has SD.

Is this a case of VUDU not wanting to carry the HD version?

Please read my sticky about this and other stuff: http://forum.vudu.com/showthread.php?t=2556

Bottom line is that all the major studios except Warner Brothers hold back on rentals until 30 days after DVD release. This is true for ALL VOD services including Vudu, AppleTV, Cable, etc.

Vudu has no control over this.

    Question about Rent vs Purchase

Why would a movie like Juno be available for purchase now but not for rental until the end of the month when it's available at all other rental places?
