Vudu Collections -- Is there a way to see more of them?

I just got my Vudu set up yesterday, and I've been playing around with it a lot. But I'm wondering if I'm seeing all there is to see when it comes to the collections. There are about half a dozen visible when I'm on the Vudu main screen. Is it possible to see others? Please give a newbie some useful tips. Thx.

    Hello and welcome!

The Collections posters change weekly. They are manually put together by staff at Vudu and are different each week. They also do not necessarily contain all content on that subject either. For example, a collection focusing on Disney movies may not have all movies produced by Disney.

If you want to explore more about a given genre of titles, the best way is to use the Explore Genres selection and experiment with different sort and search choices.

do they change on a certain day of the week? it would be great if you could see old ones, too. that's my favorite part of the offerings. i'd love to see some previous ones. i like the selections. it gives me ideas i might not have on my own, just looking through the genres list. it would also be great to have more genres or sub-genres -- classics, silents, noir, etc.

Generally the new database updates are released on Tuesdays. The database starts coming down to your box sometime between Thursday and Monday and then becomes active around Tuesday. Corresponds with when movies are released on DVD. I think that's a general rule of thumb.

You can't really see the old ones, but they do rotate the selections fairly often. You'll see some of them go away and then come back a few weeks later.

If there is a category you'd like to see, please request it. Vudu just might put it up. We even had one customer here who's dog ordered several movies while playing with the remote. Several things resulted from that including a confirmation screen where the default choice is to not rent or purchase the movie but Vudu also did a nice little selection called "Chico's Choosing" or something like that and they featured a likeness of the pup (Chico is the dog's name)!

Also, don't forget you can add movies to your wish list and create your own sort of collection of movies you'd like to rent at some time.

The OP makes a point I keep forgetting to address here. I think it's a very good idea to be able to view old collections and not just the featured ones. Maybe have a custom filter set/category that would contain all the past collections. I mean, if Vudu goes through all the trouble of hand-selecting movie collections, why should that effort be wasted?

Collections are just as dynamic as the content on the VUDU. As has been posted on other threads here a collection is just a sampling of titles that have a common theme. As titles are added or removed from the VUDU the collection may become "obsolete".

If you do scroll to the right of the collections you usually will see last weeks but thats as far as the history will go at this time.

Well, I still think it makes sense to have some popular collections accessible at all times. Stuff like AFI Top 100, Oscar-winners, etc.

I agree with several points (on both sides of the fence) made on this topic.

I can see how the collections could become obsolete but I also like the idea of being able to browse old collections.

So maybe a good compromise would be date stamp the old collections so that people understand that the movies in that particular collection were as of a certain point in time and have not been updated for movies added to the database subsequent to the stated date.

It seems that a lot of users really like the collections (I use them every single week to find movies to add to my wish list) so it seems that there is a lot of value in being able to access all of them at any given point in time. I really like the idea of having a filter for these or another way of doing it would be to simply add a button on the main screen for "All Collections" where you be transported to another screen that contains a vertical or horizontal list of all the collections (even a straight text listing would be fine I think).

The way Mebby organized the collections is kinda what I was thinking.
