What happens to my movies if VUDU goes out of business?

This concern is why I encourage my family and friends to buy the discs if they want to truly own a copy of the movie or show. I always buy physical media, but I also use the code if one is included.

Very interesting to read these posts from 2012. Over the last year, I re-purchased all my non-MA movies on iTunes for backup purposes. I now buy all non-MA movies on iTunes. This was expensive and I know not feasible for most people. I'm sure glad I did based on the recent news. Vudu is still my favorite movie collection site. It would be so sad if they don't stay in business.

Yep, iTunes might be the way to go especially now that they released the Apple TV app for Playstation, Xbox, Roku and a few other devices.

I have been writing to Fandango about my Vudu library missing over 200 titles.
They told me it is a "Movies Anywhere" issue as the online content purchased must have the MA symbol.
I never thought Wal-mart would let go, Vudu seemed like the perfect cash cow of the future.
Not to mention Vudu was just getting really user friendly, with lists and better selection.
I just recently started to move away from physical media to online movies...if I had had any clue this was going to happen...
My confidence in Fanfango was/is low for many years and now to be forced over...very VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I think Walmart could have kept Vudu, and did what Best Buy did with CDs, but with Blu-rays and DVDs. Stop selling them and sale their digital cards that redeemed straight to Vudu. Maybe continue to sale UHD discs, but the selection would be much smaller and could possible have saved money in the end. Who knows? Too late now.

I think Walmart sees themselves as more of selling physical items as opposed to selling digital items so they sold Vudu so they could focus all energies on physical item sales.

I'm sure Vudu was almost alien to Walmart top brass who are always concerned with out of stock issues, theft, shelf merchandising, and shipping and warehouse logistics, none of which apply to Vudu.

Funny thing is we have 7 Walmarts within a 60 minute radius, hardly any have CDs now, they seem to offer more vinyl then CDs, and their 4K and Blu-rays is laughable. They seems to focus on 80s and 90s boxsets, at least at the ones close to me.

Though since my original comment, I'm glad Vudu went to FNow. I was more so worried about how a merger would go, but it's come and gone (for those who merged already), and if we'd lose anything. I know many have, but hopefully it's just something they are slowly working out.
