Disney to offer movies on TiVo...

As a new TiVoHD user, I found this interesting:

    http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=394855

Disney is going to offer movie downloads on Tivo...

And yes, I still have my Replays and use those and in some ways prefer them to the Tivo...

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I also just became a Tivo-HD user and I've been fairly impressed with the box.

The Amazon Unbox feature is a nice little compliment to my Vudu box. I actually used it last night to watch The Flintstones of all things and it was great. But I DO hate how you have to (basically) wait for the entire show to download before watching it.

Hmm...I haven't watched much yet from Unbox but did download some free Battlestar Galactica stuff and I was able to watch it in about a minute after it started downloading. It cranked along at about 5 Mb/sec on my system.

I dislike the ads on the box - annoying. I dislike the startup video (but my kids love it and want to watch it over and over again - in case you want to view it hit 0 from Tivo Central). My Replay has a little quicker interface and less fluff and cartoonishness to it. But the Tivo does HD and I purchased a MyDVR Expander drive for it so I've got a total of 660 Gigs of storage. But what I liked most was the price I paid for the box! You'd hate me if I told you...

To get you to convert from Replay, they probably made you a beta tester and gave you a free unit to play with. At least, I hope that's the case b/c I've been looking for a deal on HD unit and couldn't find anything below $199.

          Nope.

I picked up a brand new one from a guy at an electronics flea market for $155. I'd been watching it all day. He was originally asking $185 or something like that for it and I kept coming back and making offers to see how low he'd go. Finally at the end of the day when he was beginning to pack up I offered him $150 and he said $155 and it was done...

It was still in all the original packaging and all. He bought it from some wholesaler or distributor going out of business or something. It had been tested out as there were a couple recordings on it but that was it...I hoped there was a lifetime on it but no dice. So I forked over the big bucks and purchased the lifetime sub...

Oh, that's not that outrageous then. Do you have a Glo remote? I love mine and I wish I had gotten it sooner. I programmed Input to toggle aspect ratio and Mute to toggle CC, so now I don't even need my TV remote

They had deals where you could get it new for $199, I think. They even had some sort of a special with lifetime and a TiVo plush.

That's a great deal. I paid $720 for my first two Series 3 TiVos in 2006(My third one was only $500 from Dell in 2006), and $270 for my first TiVoHD last Summer.(my fourth tiVoHD was only $235) but that is still a far cry from $150. And yes i have 7 units currently.
                  Excellent deal!

I guess I didn't really try to watch it after it started downloading so maybe I should do that. Pretty cool.

Also - if you want to download an entire season of a TV show you can do that from the Unbox website and it will store it in your "media gallery" or something like that and then you can push the episodes down to your box as you see fit. Pretty cool.

I agree on the Ads. I was very disappointed with this since we're paying a subscription fee. I could understand if the service were free and they were supplementing it with paid advertising but IMHO there's no excuse for being subjected to advertising when you're paying a fee to use the service in the first place (I know... I know - don't start with me on cable TV).

                      That's why I couldn't pass it up...

I'm actually surprised how many ReplayTV stalwarts are now active on TivoCommunity. One of the biggest RTV hackers is posting regularly there now...
