Vudu has officially gone to .....

Well. The STB is having problems and the customer support rep basically told me that I am screwed. No reliable hard drive = no more vudu purchases for me.

I can't believe that there is " no way" to swap a hard drive or have Vudu fix it. Glad to know that I paid for movies AND wasted $200 on the box and the extremely over priced IR receiver.

    Thanks Chinamart.
There were 2 reasons for purchasing Vudu. 1-HDX, 2-The ability to download movies to the hard drive for uninterrupted playback.

    Any suggestions? (Other than PS3)

Has anyone successfully hacked a new hard drive into one of these units? My searching has turned up nada...

    Thanks

You can probably find a used one. I have three of them at home gathering dust.

gatchel, I find that frustrating, too, but at least I can tell you that the movies you've purchased are still available online in SD and via any other Vudu streaming device in full quality. I agree, though, you shouldn't have to purchase a whole new device, but that happens with a lot of consumer electronics, not just Vudu. I do see a Vudu BX100 on eBay for $40, if you really like the STB. Personally, I wish they'd bring Vudu to TiVo or even my Sony internet-enabled devices, but it's not on any of them.

If downloading is important to you, the options are very limited.....I checked my owned movies the other day and didn't even see the download tab on my PC anymore....Maybe I'm missing something, maybe not.....I read in another forum the Ultraviolet Common File Format(CFF) is being deployed in June....I think download ability will be allowed with that...along with UV compatible devices......I have a WDTV Live Hub w/ a 1TB hard drive...VUDU does not allow downloads to it, but it streams great, hasn't buffered since I got it....

          Thanks for the suggestions.

I know that nothing lives forever in the world of electronics but the Vudu box with a failing hard drive is far from dead. What bothers me is that they are basically abandoning the box for no real reason (that I could find). If I were to buy on on ebay, it would eventually follow the same path. Installing a new hard drive would give another 3 to 5 years of life barring any other component failures. I'll have to start hacking around to see what I can do. What's the worst that can happen...

          Vudu has let me down...

They didn't recently abandon the box. They abandoned it a long time ago. It's been a while since they made the BX100 boxes.
