I'm not trying to sell Sonos. But I'm wondering if when you connect one of these to your laptop if you get a 100mb wireless connection, and whether you can use multiple units to act as repeaters for longer distances (like Sonos).

Should be able to check out the specs on the ASUS website...

The Vudu wireless kits come "paired" out of the box, so you could conceivably connect them to hubs/switches and extend the wired network for miles and miles.

Didn't think of it like that. Thanks.

Are you going to cheese out of the 100mb part of the question??

The Vudu Wireless Adapter runs at wireless B/G speeds, so 100MB isn't in the picture.

I don't think Sonos is N either (yet). They are probably doing some multiplication like you'd see with a bunch of G routers -- e.g. turning 54 into 108.

You can get 100 Mbps with a G network no problem. You simply bond 2 channels together. A lot of devices do this as long as the NIC and Router are the same brand. Vudu's could do that as it's a closed system between the two boxes. I bet Sonos does that..

Ah, "bonded" is the correct term! That's what I meant by "multiplication".

As long as the channels are non-homogenous!

                        Channels are bi[-directional], AFAIK.

Actually, half the bandwidth of each channel is allocated to one direction and half to the other. So I guess you could say they are androgynous?

I haven't found an answer to this question from the various wireless threads I searched through...

How far away can the $79 wireless adapter that plugs into the Vudu box be from the part that you connect to your router?
In my setup (when I do purchase), I would have the Vudu box downstairs in my basement and my router is upstairs on the other side of the house. Will this work okay?

It should. When they were testing this product, they specifically made sure that it worked at longer distances.
