    Vudu on Vizio's Co-Star Streamer (release 7/12)

This $99 device, reannounced today, packs a lot of bang for the buck. But does anyone know if it'll have Vudu on it?

At CES in January, there was a Vudu button on the pic of the remote control, but this has now been replaced with an M-Go button.

While on MGO.com, at 1:10 into their promo video, Vudu is seen as an example of what M-Go will bring.

What gives? I thought Vizio and Vudu, with their strong Walmart ties, we're a lock to be together for a while.

    Anyone know?

Yes, it did used to have a Vudu button but I think it was a generic remote, because I don't think anyone running the demo confirmed Vudu for it. But photos of the Vudu logo on the remote were shown in lots of news articles. I know that the Vizio streamer is Google TV based, which is Android-based and Vudu currently doesn't support Android. I've been curious about M-GO and if it will be able to play Vudu on the Vizio box outside the Android bubble or just not have Vudu at all. Sadly I'm betting the latter.

However, one thing I do know about M-GO from CES is it has its own buying/renting movie library service which they said will support UV so your UV-enabled Vudu titles should be playable on there. But we'll have to see when this launches.

A-ha. Let's hope as I have 32 Disc-To-Digital titles on UV using Walmart's photo center. Thank you.

They mention it here, as you've said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVzxH...e_gdata_player

I just grabbed a D-Link MovieNite DSM-310 so I could have a standalone vudu player but I'd definitely go for the Co-Star if and only if it has Vudu!

Talked to Vizio today and they said it has Vudu by way of the Chrome browser web app! It's the same way Vudu gets on the iPads and iPhone via Safari.

          I pre-ordered mine this morning.

            Me too.

It's good to hear that Vudu is supported is through web browser. Only problem with that is it'll probably only SD support only for the device because it'll treat it like a PC streaming is SD only.

If only M-Go accepted me into their private beta or released more info so I know where they stand on UV and streaming quality.

I don't believe the Co-Star has Vudu through the Chrome web browser or MGO or any othe way, it is a Google TV box. I own previous Google TV models and there is no Vudu by any method, including the Chrome web browser. This new model is running the same web browser and same Android version as the previous models. I am still hopeful that Vudu can be added to Google TV soon, the hardware should be capable with both generations.

The Co-Star is also a very stripped down version compared to other Google TV models, no optical audio and only one USB port. I also suspect limited codec support compared to the recently released Sony model, lots of corners had to be cut to get it to that price. Apparently it will have OnLive gaming immediately and that isn't available yet for other Google TV models if that is important.

Yeah, I never had a GTV before but all my Android phones and tablets over the years were unable to stream Vudu from browser. I never had high hopes that Vudu would be accessible on the box. But I'm wanted to try this box to replace my first-gen Roku in my bedroom (which has no way to watch UV movies yet). Like I said, I'll be happy as long as M-Go holds true on their word about UV support from launch which gives me a better quality way to watch my UV movies than Flixster (or at least until Amazon launches UV support).

I dropped cable and ultimately chose Google TV along with TiVo for OTA as the solution. I wanted a full featured web browser, not to just rely on the walled garden approach of selected apps like Apple TV and the others. I am very happy with Google TV but I also have a player for Vudu and a PC connected to an HDTV for access to sites blocking Google TV. I much prefer using Google TV to the PC and of course it is much cheaper but I wanted Hulu access and access to a few other sites unavailable with Google TV. So dropping cable means I have Google TV, TiVo w/OTA, Blu-ray player w/Vudu and a PC for sites blocking Google TV.

I don't think there will ever be a single box solution, no Vudu HDX with a PC and no Hulu with a streaming box kills that possibility for me. I know I could pay for Hulu Plus but there would still be a few other sites blocking Google TV I want access to.

I don't know about M-Go and UV support but hopefully it will work great. If Vizio pulls this off, can sell a Google TV box at $100 profitably and have it work properly, that will be good news. I am very skeptical..

                    Good news!

The Vizio Co-Star is now receiving an update to v. 3 of the Google TV software and it includes a native Vudu app!

Yeah. I've been waiting impatiently for the last two days for my Co-Star to get the update. Can't wait until Vudu is on my GTV, then I will have no use for buggy, beta M-Go anymore.

I got my Google TV v3 update for my Co-Star yesterday, and Vudu is now on my Google TV box. With HDX support. I watched 30-minute TV episode last night in HDX without any lag or other issues. And finally, I have access to my full UV library in HD in my bedroom.

                        Thanks Vudu!

Can you get 5.1? All I'm getting is Stereo.
