Have you looked at the feature that allows you to "Archive" content from your VUDU and then have it re-download when wanting to watch again? Effectly this would provide some relief of your full hard drive.

Not all contest is archivable but I too have quite a bit of TV shows built up and I have archived full seasons of some of the shows.

I also tend to purchase alot of movie, so I feel your pain. I have asked for this feature many times, and I've been told they are working on it, so hang in there. If I was you I would contact customer service and see if they can do anything for you.

My personal advice is until this issue is resolved, try to rent as much as you can. I know it is tempting to purchase items so you don't have to wait until they are available for rent, but it will save you alot of headache. As for those movies that are purchase only...either keep your purchasing to a minimum until this is resolved or just add them to your wishlist and wait until this issue is resolved, before you purchase them.

You must purchase quite a number to fill up the unit! I've got 6 seasons of Family Guy on my unit along with a number of additional movies and still haven't hit the limit

I know Vudu's well aware of the storage issue people are having. We've been asking for this for some time. I don't know the development schedule but hopefully, this sort of thing is coming sooner rather than later...

            Re: External Hard Drive

I thought that movies now tell you whether they could be archived, but maybe I was thinking of extended rentals... Vudu should add something to let you know whether a title could be archived then.

Vudu is actually relatively fast at adding functionality (unlike ATV), so hopefully external storage is on its way. There've been some heated debates about it here, so I get a feeling it's very high on Vudu's to-do list

Hopefully. I bought my external storage device that I plan to use with VUDU, months ago.

If you had done that with the Tivo, you would have been SOL since they only supported a specific drive. Hopefully that won't happen to you with Vudu.

With the Series 3 boxes you can use other drives. I think it's the TiVoHD that is restricted to a drive that is blessed by the TiVo gods.

That's correct, but you can hack a TivoHD so that any drive can be used w/it.

I didn't mess with that but just went the safe route with mine!

According to Tivo, both the Series 3 and Tivo HD have the same restriction:

                      http://www.tivo.com/setupandsupport/...Q.html#support

I'm not considering the hacking option though because I generally only use supported solutions.

That's the official stance, but it is a well known fact that the Series 3 boxes can take any eSata drive. See the drive FAQ on TivoCommunity.com.

I did not know that. Interesting. Anyway, they don't sell the Series 3 anymore, which I think is a shame. I guess it was too expensive so they weren't able to make money with it.

Even more interesting. There was a time some months ago when I was suggesting to my friend to get the Series 3. He ended up getting the HD because the Tivo website just said that the Series 3 was "No longer available" or something to that effect. It wasn't an "out of stock" type of message. When I checked the website some time after that, it was the same thing. They were available on Amazon.com at the time though.

Anyway, it's good to know they haven't been discontinued. I think the Series 3, with the bigger disk and the front display showing what is being recorded, etc., is nicer.
