    Re: XBox 360 & Netflix

I had no problem with my HD download(stargate SG1: The Ark of Truth) a few minutes after they launched the service. Although it was downloading slower than normal at only 40mbs instead of the normal 50mbs download speed I get from the PSN. It's just nice to be able to use my PS3 for something besides 1080P movie trailer downloads.
Although VUDU will still be my first choice for VOD. The PS3 will be number 3 behind Xbox live, with FIOS as my last choice for VOD.

For me, for example, I'm not that interested in a device that has both download and blu-ray capabilities. The reason I got into the download devices in the first place was to get rid of the chore of driving to the video store to pick out a movie to watch.

It's interesting to see all these different video download devices on or coming to market now. But really, to me, they all (Vudu, ATV, Roku, PS3, Xbox) lack something that one or more of the others have.

Either way it is an exciting time for this niche!
I just bought the 80gb PS3 and the selection of movie including HD is slim to put it mildly. I just rented Berwolf in HD and it is taking forever to download. I will post back on the quality. After seeing Sony's attempt at a user friendly interface and selection of movie I'm think Vudu far surpasses SONY.

Here is a video of the Netflix/Xbox demo. Looks pretty good but just as we thought - you have to set-up your queue on their website first. It appears to have instant streaming though which is a huge improvement over the current video store on Xbox Live. No clue what the video quality is like.

Between Vudu and Xbox Live I may just cancel my cable subscription! It only I could find a way to have access to all the live sports programming I'd cancel today.

I agree. Between my Tivo (with Amazon Unbox), Vudu, and Xbox Live I should be a great shape.

I WILL say, however, that the Vudu interface is head and shoulders above all of these.

Yeah, I really wish they'd implement buffering of content so you could always watch the highest quality, but since 360's hard drive isn't mandatory, I guess they couldn't do that.

Anyhow, insofar as Vudu is concerned, the bigger deal is new update to the Playstation Network. Tonight, they are rolling out movie rental & purchases on PS3 that could be transferred to PSP (like AppleTV and iPods)

    Re: XBox 360 & Netflix

The only thing I found interesting was a piece I read from some Apple Insider blog that, and I quote, "will also give Netflix customers a unique social component that lets as many as eight Xbox Live members watch a movie at the same time. "

Interesting concept none the less, but my guess is it won't be a very useful feature as I can not imagen trying to coordinate getting a bunch of people together to watch a movie at a particular day at a particular time.

As for the rest...since the Xbox will be streaming from Netflix, the same issues with quality, bad selections, etc...will continue be a factor, as with the roku.

    XBox 360 & Netflix

Anyone heard the news yet? What are your thoughts? Is this basically the same thing as the existing Roku box integrated into the 360 or will this have full access to the entire Netflix library?

From what I've read it seems very similar to the existing Roku box b/c you have to add the movies that you want to watch to your queue via the Netflix website.

    Thoughts?

    See the news here.
