Regarding - Why Can't I Purchase or Rent All Movies

Heard all that a million times. Bottom line -- We went to watch Puss and Boots tonight to find out we have to buy it. Nice try... Third time in a row now, different movies each time.

As a customer I am simply looking for a good product at a good price. I am looking for easy too. In my mind this service is crossing a threshold whereas my interest level is beginning to drop fast. Again, not interesting in the business model, what happened last quarter, or any other excuses for that matter. The companies hiding behind the MPAA need to fix this. That is at least, if you want to keep my interest.

    1) Find a bundle of movies at a yard sale / ebay / Salvation Army / etc. When I say bundle, I mean wholesale lot of discs only. Walmart doesn't need the cases to do D2D.
    2) Go to Walmart and use Disc To Digital
    3) The end result for "purchasing" the movie on Vudu from D2D is vastly cheaper than buying it.

You will never have to rent it again and will always own it on Vudu and Ultraviolet. My two cents. Why rent it when you can own it (SD) for basically $3? There are some good places near me that have a crapload of movies for $1-$2 each. Instead of renting the movies from Vudu, I buy them from there, and then OWN them on Vudu for as much as they want for a rental

If you think VUDU chose to not allow rentals you are sadly mistaken. The studios say what can and can't be rented and/or owned

What I don't understand is, if there are shows that I can't buy or rent, and they're not free, then I can't watch them. Why don't they just take them off the web site, instead of wasting my time?

For those that purchased them before the titles were no longer available. Those individuals still can play the titles. Also, if the title ever comes back as available, the purchase function is turned back on vs loading the complete title to the system.

Sometimes they hide unavailable titles so they stop showing up in search results but not always. I for one think this is a good thing because once a title is hidden it makes it inconvenient for those of us who own it to search for it and watch it. In order to find hidden titles in our library we need to sort everything alphabetically and scroll down till we find it. This can be a bit time consuming on some versions of the Vudu app. I suspect that the decision to hide certain titles is based on analytics, like how often a title is searched and watched by those who own it.

Scrolling purchased content has become nightmarish in the new VUDU app for Roku, for anyone with a larger library. The VUDU app for TiVo retains the original scrolling behavior and I can scroll through my whole library painlessly.

As for the OP topic, I'd prefer that VUDU would include an entry for every title listed in IMDB, allowing me to tag currently unavailable titles to my Wishlist. That said, the problem with this approach is that there's no guarantee that the ID applied to the title once added to VUDU would match the ID for the version added to my Wishlist -- as was the case for 'The Graduate.' Even though I had The Graduate in my Wishlist, I was unaware that it had been made available for sale by VUDU because the new title spawned a different system identifier.
