    Random Sorting

    Sort by Random...

Someone at Vudu needs to implement this feature. It will greatly enhance my Vudu experience as well as others that are like myself. There are times when I don't have a clue on what movie I want to watch and with over 6,000 titles, I find it hard to explore the catalog effectively

The way the sorting is now, it places the same movies on top and I don't have the patience to sort through all 6,000 titles for a movie I might want to watch. Because of that, it seems that I barely scratch the surface on what Vudu has to offer.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to sort by A-Z, Release Date, Critics Rating, Most Watched, etc. But what if I want to watch a low rated 80's movie with a title that starts with a X that nobody watched? In that situation, I wouldn't even know the title was on the box.

Sorry for the rant, but I would greatly appreciate it if Vudu can manage to incorporate this feature.

    Re: Random Sorting

I'm not sure I follow your suggestion.

Are you simply saying that you want them to randomly display the listing of movies instead of sorting them alphabetically or by whatever sorting option you've selected?

I don't get it. You can use the filters and sorting options to slice the library in almost any way imaginable. I've personally found this to be one of the strengths of the software - in fact it's almost too good at times b/c I end up spending lots of time flipping through the database in search of new movies to watch.

      Re: Random Sorting

Hmm, how about we take it one step further and run it like hotwire/priceline, where we show you a discounted price and a general description of the movie (without any specific details that would revel the title), but you don't get to see the title until you pay? Now that would be random!

        Re: Random Sorting

I agree with you that you can use the filter and sorting options to slice the library in almost any way imaginable, but in order to do that you have to get into specifics. What if you're in the mood for anything and everything and don't want to leave any genre or option out in your search?

I believe Random Sorting would not only benefit people like me, but everybody. For example, Let's say you are specific and you only like movies that have Drama and Comedy and you narrow your search down to 350 titles or so. Now 350 titles is still a lot of movies to scroll through when you just want to watch a movie quickly. Wouldn't it be nice to have new and fresh selection of titles at the top each and everytime you choose those options?

Basically it comes down to convenience. That is one of the major reasons on why I chose to purchase a Vudu. I believe that your post further cemented the fact that Vudu would benefit with Random Sorting. In your post, you stated:

"I end up spending lots of time flipping through the database in search of new movies to watch."

That statement is exactly my point. I don't want to spend a lot of time searching through filters and options to find a movie I might want to watch at that particular time. When I want to watch a movie I just want to sit down and find a movie that sparks my interest and hit play. I don't want to sit there and sift through titles for 2 hours to find a movie I want to watch.

I'm not here to change anyone's sorting habits since people are different, but in my own experience, I would love to have this feature.

It's just an idea that I had that would enhance Vudu and I don't believe it would be that difficult to implement, either.

          Re: Random Sorting

ok. I think I see your point now. So basically, you like the filters but you'd simply like a "random" sort option as well right?

Seems to make sense to me and I agree that it seems easy enough to implement.

            Re: Random Sorting

That is exactly what I'm saying. I find it a breeze and enjoyable to search for something in a specific genre. My intentions was to never change anything, but to add. I would like Random to be included on this list:

            SORT RESULTS BY:

            Top Picks
            Most Watched
            Critics' Rating
            Release Date
            A through Z

That is all that I'm requesting.

              Re: Random Sorting

              It's a very good idea.

                Re: Random Sorting

                Yeah, that would be cool.
