HDX -- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition)

Looks like at least the first one of the LOTR movies extended is available in HDX now. Hopefully the next two will be available in HDX also soon.

At the time when I redeemed the three LOTR extended codes I go SD quality files.

Suddenly "Fellowship" CHANGED on its own to HDX. My fingers are crossed for the other two Extended Editions of LOTR to automatically change to HDX quality. The SD versions don't look that great, but "Fellowship" in HDX looks amazing.

I bought this about a year ago at BestBuy and never opened it. Is this the copy that gives the Extended Versions? Or do I have to buy something newer (as these codes were only intended for "Windows Media Player")?

Those are not UV. The versions with UV codes were just released on August 28 2012.

Thanks for helping me out, would have been very pi**ed off when I finally opened it to realize the codes didn't work!

Codes usually expire, but I think I have that exact same boxed set and I got codes that I used on iTunes. (This was before D2D was available, though.) But if they haven't expired, you may still be able to get digital copies...just not one that will work with Vudu or UV.

Does anyone know if there will be HDX upgrades for Two Towers and Return of the King like what happened with Fellowship?

I still see SD files in my collection for LOTR extended version for Two Towers and Return of the King. Only Fellowship was upgraded to HDX.

Weird that only one of them was converted to HDX and not the other two.

Hopefully, they are working on it.

They all are being converted. Something went wrong with the last two so they had to redo them.

They must be using a hamster on a treadmill to do the conversions. I would imagine it would only take a day or less to convert a blu-ray into an HDX file.

I just hope and pray that when the second and third EE LOTR movies are converted to HDX that we get an automatic free upgrade like we did for Fellowship. That would be AWESOME.

Have you watched the HDX of Fellowship yet? How does it look and sound?

I have watched the extended Fellowship on Vudu (on the 55-inch LG Cinema Display) and it is absolutely gorgeous in HDX. Rich color, very sharp - the conversion is exceptional. The AQ is breathtaking for what it is (my favorite sound cotex is DTS HD Master Audio which we frequently get on blu-ray discs).

Having seen this first EE LOTR film in HDX has me drooling to see the next two in HDX. I hope the studio comes through.

Where can I find the LOTR EE UV editions? I don't see any UV specific communication on the packaging.

The UV codes for the Extended LOTR movies are available in the three individual blu-ray releases for these movies (not in the trilogy box set).

When I redeemed my UV codes, they all came through in SD quality (poo-poo!). Not long afterwards, the first extended movie: Fellowship of the Rings was magically upgraded to HDX quality. Whoo hoo! I watched it and it is a stunning transfer.

Every day I check my Vudu collection hoping to find HDX versions of the extended Two Towers and Return of the Kings. From what I have read on this forum, those HDX transfers are underway. I hope we all eventually get free HDX upgrades for the last two EE LOTR movies like we did for Fellowship. Nothing would be more awesome!
