Redeem UV codes: Own vs. Promo/Own?

Hello all, I've searched for an answer to this question and found it asked once but not addressed or answered.

I have several movies in my Vudu collection that were added via digital copy code from a Blu-ray combo pack purchase. In my Vudu Account History, some of them show up as "Own <Title of Movie> HDX" and some of them show up as "Promo/Own <Title of Movie> HDX". Is there any significant difference between these two statuses?

I'll be looking for the answer myself, and if I find it I'll post it, but in the meantime if anyone already knows the answer can you please help me out? Thanks in advance!

Promo/own is usually what shows when a customer enters the redemption code through Vudu. Own is what shows when the title is added to your Vudu library without entering a redemption code through Vudu. For example you go through the movie studio site to redeem your digital copy.

That makes sense, thanks for the explanation. Now the REAL reason I asked the question...does that affect my ownership of the movie? I ask this because sometimes I see on the slip of paper "Download/stream this movie by xx/xx/xxxx", and the xxxx is several years out (2015, 2016, etc.). My uneducated brain thinks that after that date that the movie won't be available to me anymore.

The two may not be related (Promo/Own and the extended expiration date), but I don't want to get too invested into a service where I will start to lose content later.

The ownership rights on Vudu are the same for both of those instances. However there will be a difference on your ownership rights at the Studio site. If you redeem a code at the Studio redemption site you receive download and stream right for them as well as Vudu, CinemaNow, etc. However if you redeem your code through Vudu the studio site don't allow download you only will be allowed to stream at their site.

The dates are expiration dates of when the codes are no longer valid to redeem, if redeemed before that date your rights are permanent.

Excellent, as I had hoped. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Flixster is an exception to the rule for the Studio download or stream rights, they will give you both download and stream rights no matter where you redeem your code.
