Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

Firecreek starts out 2.35:1 (the correct OAR). After the credits it switches to 1.85:1.

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

I'm glad I found this thread, because I had issues with Batman Begins and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two being improperly 'zoomed in'. But I'm also disappointed to see that it's apparently been several months without a fix on these and/or other movies.

Where is Vudu's quality control with this stuff? Something this egregious makes it seem like this service is somewhat slapped-together and that no one cares about this.

As I've said about Vudu before when I was complaining about serious connection / service / navigation issues on the XB1 app, I love this service /when it works/. This service has amazing potential. But they need to clean this up!

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

Might it be useful to note which movies come from which movie studios, to check for any correlation between which movies are getting corrected and which are not?

Also on that point, since Vudu representation has said that the trouble traces back to a complicated situation with the movie companies, maybe he/she/they can elaborate on that to help educate us on why that is, including details on all of the steps and hurdles involved in the process?

I know that would mean a lot to me if I could at least know exactly why it takes a year or longer to fix these issues!

You can add Elvis On Tour to this list, starts out in proper aspect ration then gets zoomed in.

It is really pretty annoying to see all of these movies not getting fixed yet on other sites such as Amazon, Flixster and MGO they have several of these films in their proper aspect ratio.

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

I was wondering if incidents of 4:3 images being stretched to 16:9 (such as with many of the Universal Monster films) can be fixed in-house at Vudu rather than needing a new file. Unlike many Aspect Ratio problems, this is not an issue of a film image being cut, but of it being stretched. I wonder if there is an option on Vudu's end to set the film to stream at 4:3.

The image is correct, it's just the ratio it's displaying at that it wrong. This isn't the same as when Lego Movie was misframed. Lego Movie's image was actually cut, so a new file was needed. Vudu literally has the while image for Frankenstein, Wolf Man, etc. They just need that image to display at 4:3.

Sadly, this is often the case.

there is still no fix on the Universal Monster titles. I'd have thought that those films getting redemption codes with their recent Blu-Ray releases would have prompted a fix (because the codes mean that more eyes will be on those faulty versions then previously).

BTW, in 8 days this thread will be a year old. Barely any of the titles have been fixed.
Sadly, we'll soon be at two years and all that has really changed is that new titles have been added.

                        This thread always depresses me.

When I first posted this, I opened a ticket. I was told that it would be fixed soon. That was March. It's still not fixed. This wasn't a Disc to Digital title. I bought this. I do not own it on DVD. This faulty, unwatchable Vudu version is the only version that I own, and I can't even wacth it because it looks just awful. And no fix is coming. That is becoming obvious. Its been 7 months.

I just sent an e-mail to Cinema Libre, the studio behind American Scary, requesting them to please provide Vudu with the proper encode of the film.

Later today I plan to make a phone call to Universal Home Video to request the proper encodes for the Universal Monster films.

I have spent some time today trying to get some of these aspect ratio problems fixed. We keep hearing that the studios are slow to provide new encodes, so I think if we (the consumer) start being squeaky wheels that we might get some grease.

I called Universal Home entertainment today to discuss the Universal Monster films. I left two voice mail messages and e-mailed them. I also was in contact with Fox and discussed the Revenge of the Nerds sequels.

Fox seems as if they are anxious to assist and asked for a lot of details. I have not yet heard back from Universal.
