I called Universal Home entertainment today to discuss the Universal Monster films. I left two voice mail messages and e-mailed them. I also was in contact with Fox and discussed the Revenge of the Nerds sequels.

Fox seems as if they are anxious to assist and asked for a lot of details. I have not yet heard back from Universal.
I did this about a year ago and I believe Fox as well was the only one anxious to help at that time. It would be nice if you gave us the contact information for all the studios (either on this forum or a PM). We can use the information to contact the studios as well.

I wish I'd discovered this thread before I'd driven out to a local store to have my Ben-Hur disc converted, spending the cash to do it and gas . I'll be very judicious about any further disc-to-digital conversions on any titles for which I don't get a redemption code for. In fact, even for titles where I do get the redemption code, this is still an issue! The encode of Drive is cropped from 2.35 to 1.78! As a streaming skeptic, if this is the future, I'll be very wary of giving up any physical copies of things while this kind of thing is still happening! Chopping Technirama down from 2.76 to 1.78 amounts to about half of the viewable picture! I for one am not pleased with both the money I spent on gas on on the conversion and the poor customer service I received at the store, only to wind up with this issue. I will be watching this thread carefully before I make any other purchases !

I really wish more of these would be fixed. Especially the Indiana Jones films and Universal Monster films.

I just realized today that Halloween: H20 was in the wrong aspect ratio!

I have added it to the list.

I just noticed the Edge of Darkness was in the wrong aspect ratio last night but it is already on the list. I created a case but does anyone know if any of these have ever been corrected on Vudu?

I went into the store to convert my copy of Ben-Hur, I suppose it's my fault for not reading this thread . Not only did I have to deal with poor customer service, now I'm out the cash it took to do the conversion as well . I have to say, as someone skeptical about "the cloud," issues like this do little to bolster my confidence, especially when a film like that was shot super-wide and this cropping leaves us missing more than 50% of the available picture information !

Also, I redeemed the Ultraviolet code from my Drive, and it's cropped as well, and that's a brand new film.

Other than the titles on the "Recently Corrected" list, none of them have been fixed yet.

Really disappointing - almost 2 years for many of these titles and hardly anything fixed. Nice thread though.

This one is particularly odd, as it's a fairly new film. Did they prep a panned-and-scanned transfer for TV or something and then accidentally send that as the encode? It's very peculiar. You'd think the studio would catch it fairly quickly and replace it, but evidently not.

I figured these might be copies for HBO or some other premium movie channel, since they're unedited but are still cropped to fit 16:9 TVs. Perhaps Vudu continues to accidentally get these versions of movies?

Shame to hear about Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. One of my all-time favorite films, I was looking forward to using a free redemption code to get it before hearing about the aspect ratio.

Does anybody still actually WANT any movies in the wrong ratio? You can't even buy a 4x3 TV anymore, and if letterboxed scope on a 16x9 TV bothers you, you can always zoom in on it yourself. I got rid of HBO in the 90s after having just a few months because all of their movies were pan and scan when I could get them letterboxed on laserdisc, and since they went HD and kept it their policy to show cropped movies I still won't subscribe to them.

I'm pretty sure the people at Vudu don't want a glaring flaw in the service pinned up for everyone to see :/

That being said, I think this may be one of the most-viewed threads ever on the Vudu board (Not counting the two D2D threads).
