    Wal-Mart $7.88 Titles

So everyone keeps talking about the Wal-Mart $7.88 bargin Blu-Ray bin.

I finally dragged myself down to Wal-Mart but went twice the distance to the nicer one that actually has a Blu-Ray section instead of mixing all together like my local one.

Anyhow they had a huge bin, though it wasn't very deep, optical illusion. I was surprised to see some decent titles. Nothing amazing. The free digital UV copy and (2nd iTunes copy) in some cases was nice. Only thing is that when you add tax you up around $9. Amazon and best buy often have many of these titles for $5 shipped. Sure thats plus tax, and sure it's without a digital copy. But when you can do D2d for $2 it's still several bucks cheaper.

So I just don't get it. I've been going even cheaper by buying used collections for $1-3 a disc and then doing $2 D2D. Many are bigger / newer, but not new release (sometimes though) than the $7.88 titles. Plus the one's I don't want out of someone's collection I resell for buck or two more than I paid.

I've been building a huge collection of blu-rays and UV copies for almost nothing.

It's not for people that have to have cases, artwork, no scratches, etc. I use UV mostly so the blu-rays are just for legal, moral, and back-up reasons if UV ever just goes away I still have all my movies on disc.

Love this approach, wish I knew a good source for blu-ray collections at those prices. Right now I get them for about $4 per disc (with cases and artwork) at the local pawn shop.

Somewhat related. I was at Best Buy last night. They have their own version at $7.99 (instead of $7.88, HA!). There were some better titles compared to Wal-Mart, and different. Problem was they didn't have any digital copies attached to them and most were single title instead of Wal-Mart having loads of double titles. Best Buy also had a $5.99 selection but most were horrible, below B or C movies.

Several of the movies that I've picked up from the Wal-Mart bin are Not UV compatible and several are not available for D2D. That is why I grabbed them. Granted, they may eventually show up, but I've got them now. Also, I can turn around and sell the disc and make my money back if I was so inclined...which I'm not...I like having the physical media just in case my internet goes down.

That works for you and that's fine. But myself and others don't have that option or the time to do it. The $7.88 price is good for many and you don't have to do D2D.

You could always price match any local retailer's price of the same movie at Walmart if they have a better price. I doubt it would make a difference to the cashier or CSR at Walmart that they have an extra digital copy that the other retailer doesn't have.

I can't speak to Wal-Mart price matching but my experience with Target and Best Buy price match is that they match on a model code / SKU / barcode basis and not a title. In other words even if it's the same number and configuration of discs and the titles and box look the same and have the same retail price, they only price match if the sku / barcode / model are the same. What seems to happen is that Amazon, Best Buy, and Target all get / use a different code that doesn't match any of the other stores so they won't honor price matches. It's a shell game. Get a CSR who doesn't know or care about the policy and you might get away with it though.

I've got a friend who does this all the time...takes the target/best buy ad to the competitor and gets the better price. To me, that's not worth my time to "save" $1 - $2 when I end up spending that in gas to get from one place to the other.
