    Vudus Turning On By Themselves

This has happened to me several times in the past several weeks. At first I thought it was just something I did. I have 4 of these in my house (and 1 at my dad's house). Last night, they all turned themselves on. I don't think there was any power failure or anything. Has anybody else experienced this?

When a new SW version is downloaded the Vudu will reboot. I'm guessing it reboots to an ON state instead of the previous state.

That is correct, I've noted this before. While I think it should return to the state before the SW update, I wouldn't want them to spend much time on that, as there are still some much more worthwhile improvements they could work on instead.

Unless your TV is on and selected to the "Vudu" input, it shouldn't really make a difference I don't think...Unless you have auto sensing HDMI ports on your TV that would automatically turn the TV on!

The first time it happened, I was convinced that my dueling remotes problem had returned. Now that I've seen it a couple of times, I figured it was something like the forced reboot. I guess it is an indication that there is new software.

Yeah, I believe the general release software is now 1.0.2.

I'm not sure how to take this reply, and I'm certainly not the vudu cheerleader others are, but assuming this was a dig at vudu, I really don't understand the reason.

I don't think vudu needs to communicate every single dot release to the public. Major revisions, sure, especially if it requires any input from the users (redo setup, etc). but minor revisions? Too much wasted communication IMO.

Is it that hard to post a new thread saying that 1.0.2 containing minor fixes was released? No.

It would be a nice gesture to their users ... I'd like to know whether my system received the latest software and the latest database version ....

Re: Vudus Turning On By Themselves

Don't forget, a lot of the customer base may want to keep it simple and just watch movies, and would be annoyed by messages like software updates, unless it really changed the fundamental functionality of the device. But that's why we have this board, for the rest of us.

I don't even know what 1.0.2 contains. I do know of one feature that I believe it has that came from customer requests right here in these fourms.

There is now a "coming soon" button in the Find Movies section...

I agree. I would also like to be aware when and if my Vudu box is getting all the current updates.

On a related note, I was up late watching my Tivo last night (2:30 AM) and watching a show I was transferring from another of our Tivos. In the middle of the transfer, while I was watching the show, the Tivo rebooted and told me it was installing a software update. It remembered that I was transferring the show but didn't save anything that was already transferred so it started over. I was a bit peeved but I took it as a sign that I should probably go to bed.

Fortunately, the Vudu won't do this...
