Vudu Praise and a few suggestions/requests

I was flipping through my Vudu box last night adding movies to my "wish list" and it hit me that this little device really has improved a ton over the past year that I've owned it. They're up to some 10,200-odd titles (that's up by about 200 or so from a week ago). When I got the box it only had around 5,000. The interface has improved quite a bit - including full screen previews. They've added porn (don't act like you don't like it) and they're offering different tiers of quality.

All the while they've maintained their focus on CONVENIENCE and the WOW factor. I'm pleased to see them keeping their focus and I've seriously enjoyed my Vudu for the entire year. So keep it up Vudu. Seriously - you've done a great job.

My Vudu would be complete if they did three things (in order of priority):
    1. Allowed for streaming of networked media files (with a wide array of supported codecs).
    2. Allowed sharing of content between Vudu units on the same network.
    3. Fixed the organization of "My TV Shows." I'm a big Family Guy fan but only of recent so I went back to season 1 and I've started watching every single episode. This is GREAT. But... when I go into "My TV Shows" it has the owned shows randomly sorted. I go into there so I can see where I left off so that I know which episode to watch next. They NEED better organization there (and probably in other similar areas but I just don't use those so it's not as evident to me).

Dont want to derail the thread, but how does the wish list work? For future releases?

Re: Vudu Praise and a few suggestions/requests

I would like to see the VUDU with the ability to stream from one to the other also. I have the Total Home DVR from AT&T U-Verse which can do this. Once you use this feature you don't go back.

I have been asking for the sort order to be corrected in "My TV" also. But there is a work around. Instead of going into "My TV" go to "Explore TV" and just go to the season of shows that you already purchased. This list is already in Season/Episode order unlike "My TV" which is alpha sorted.

Since I purchased the whole season 1 of Lost In Space I want to watch them in episode order so I use this method.

After figuring what the wish list is, I have a request idea.

Why not set our coming soon section up to where it can work like the Netflix/BB Online Queue?

*) First, you have preferences in your account where you order the formats you want by priority (HDX/HD/SD), like Netflix (Blu-ray/DVD)

*) Then, its setup to where you go into the "Coming Soon" section and it'll allow you to add flicks to your "Queue".

*) Once the movie is released, depending on how you have prioritized video qualities, the highest encode possible will be automatically downloaded to your box.

The thing is you are not thinking of "instant" view yet. You haven't experienced it. Unless you are ordering an HDX movie, there is no need to have the movie pushed to your box because when you decide you want to view it, you watch it instantly anyhow. HDX is a whole 'nutter ball o wax as it is not available for instant viewing and needs to be downloaded ahead of time. It's different from Netflix in that there's only X number of physical copies that Netflix has of a movie and there's Y people wanting that movie. So they have to stage it as they don't have enough to satisfy everyone all at once. That's not the case with Vudu. They can serve a movie when it first comes out to 1 or to 100,000 or more. It doesn't matter.

Understood. Just don't ignore the SD stuff. There's a lot of it and the quality is quite good.

Oh I wont. I surely wont hold it against a new release thats sd. Ill just pick the HD stuff before anything else.

I hope Vudu holds true that all HD titles will he HDX too. Hopefully we see all new releases in HD in the future.

Re: Vudu Praise and a few suggestions/requests

In addition to all other suggestions & ideas, I'd like to say that TV side of things needs work. Not only is the interface non-TV friendly and there are no options to buy seasons (instead of purchasing 20+ episodes individually), but the show selection leaves much to be desired (only 50 or so shows), there are no HD shows, and VUDU seems to get shows around DVD release instead of next day like iTunes.

Sure, I have TiVo, HTPC, 360, and PS3, so I can get my shows other ways. But I like the convenience of VUDU and, especially, ability to archive shows to a cloud.

Last season Vudu was getting new releases of shows regularly. Shark for example, got the new shows right away.

But this season, The Closer has never been updated and Sarah Connor Chronicles has not been updated either. A big bummer...

Re: Vudu Praise and a few suggestions/requests

Same deal with Prison Break: the last episodes of the season I somehow missed on my DVR, so I just bought them on Vudu maybe a week or less after they aired. No such luck this season. I'm also looking to watch The Big Bang Theory every week, since I only have two active DVRs and there are two other shows on in that slot that I like even more, but it's still one of my top 10 or 20 shows currently airing. Of course, that doesn't have any episodes from this season either.

Id like to be able to rate movies(dunno where the current star rating comes from), really enjoyed doing this with Netflix (unless Im missing that feature)

The star ratings come from a rating service - I forget which one - some offbeat one (like Rotten Tomatoes but not as well known).

In terms of rating movies, Shorn is doing something with this. I noticed on my box last week that he had a collection up and you pick one movie from it to watch. That effectively "votes" your movie pick for the week and then he'll tally those up and report back here or something like that. I'm not sure if this started yet or not since I've not seen any mention of it, but it's a cool idea.

Not so much, IMO. Most of my favorite movies that have come out more than a year ago I very likely own on DVD, so I wouldn't rent them again. Or, heck, I may only have time for one kid's movie and one "date" movie, and may not want to choose from the voting list even though I have a clear favorite. The voting should be either a non-purchase click in the UI, or online.
