    Buying after renting

I just rented Oblivion and I have 25 hours left.

Is there an option to buy at a reduced price if movie is already rented?

I've seen this implemented before. On Amazon, for example, you are sent a coupon for purchasing the movie a few hours after the rental period begins.

I'd buy it if I could apply the 4.99 rental price to the 14.99 purchase price.

Actually, I answered this question for someone a couple months ago.

      https://forum.vudu.com/showthread.ph...stion-for-VUDU!!

You may not like the answer (ie: the feature is there, but the offering is really limited right now), but that's the current status. As you can imagine, VUDU of course wants to offer these sorts of features as widely as possible, but as another customer correctly pointed out on one of these threads, one issue is that often different studio departments or even distributors handle licensing of rentals vs purchases, which can make things tricky revenue-wise...

Yes, you have told us before that this feature exists on some movies. I asked you this before and got no answer. I will ask again...how do we know if a movie is available for rent to own? Where do we look? Are they on a special list somewhere that we can see?

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't believe it's advertised in the UI anywhere. As I said it's really limited right now as the studios aren't particularly interested in the feature. I was just pointing out to people asking for it that we already implemented it (over a year ago, I think?) but have yet to get enough traction from studios to make it all that interesting (hence, "you may not like the answer"...)

You're right, I don't like the answer, but thanks for the reply!

An unadvertised feature is one that most likely will never be used, therefore it might as well not exist...and, it sounds like this is a feature we need to continue asking for. We need more movies with the rent-to-buy option as well as a way in the UI to know which movies have this feature.

I'll +1 this. This is something you need to be able to 'show' us as the customers. And the studios need to pull there money grubbing heads out of their @%$es and give customers this option!!

I will +1 this, too. There is money to be made by implementing this feature. The question is whether it is enough to interest the parties involved. I think it may be a great deal. I know I would have purchased several movies that I only rented, if the prices were reduced by amount of the rental prices.
