    Do you miss video stores?

I enjoy the convenience of digital rentals, though I have started longing for the days of video stores. Sound's silly I'm sure. It was a social event that I now miss.

Friends gathering then head off to the local video store and searching through shelf after self. Making jokes, laughing, and running into other friends and catching up.

Between txting and everything available on your PC, it seems the world is becoming less social. Yes, there are social sites and networks, though is anyone really readying what you are tweeting? Does anyone really care about your new facebook status? I found that txting and such feels like you are connecting with others only because you perceived others are entertained and reading what you post. But maybe I'm wrong.

Lol sorry for the rant. Let me know how you feel.

I know what you mean. Searching a digital rental site is not generally going to help you come across something you didn't know about or maybe didn't think about, while browsing the aisle at a local video store might. Thankfully, there's a Blockbuster still in business I check out occasionally not far from here. Plus, my local library also has dvds and a few blu-rays that can be checked out, and I take advantage of that as well.

There are a lot fewer of them everywhere of course, there used to be a half dozen or so in the area, depending on what route I was taking meant which one I visited if I was in the mood, and now just the one. But, maybe check your local library as I stated earlier, you might have a similar experience.

Even more than Blockbuster, I miss our Media Play! We have other stores, including Barnes & Noble and a HUGE used CD and Movie store where we can still browse. It's still very important for us because we are not yet 100% committed to buying only digital. We still plan on owning the physical DVD or Blu-ray disc for those movies we really love.

I do really like the new store front Vudu put together for the "New To Own" titles! It's always been easy to find new "new releases". But not so much for new "older titles" they are adding. I am hoping that we can keep up with new titles as they are added to Vudu now, because their email simply doesn't do it. For example, when they finally add titles like Romancing The Stone or Scream 2 then I think we will see them in the "New To Own" store front. We'll see how good of a job Vudu does keeping it current.

Yes, but while everyone seems to act as if social networking was always here, it's really almost brand new. I'm thinking that in 10-15 years it will be easy to have a videoconference with your extended family or far-flung friends, share your TV screen with them and browse movies, then pick one and watch it together. The capabilities are already there, the integration and programming are just lagging because no one is willing to devote resources to features like these that don't generate money.
