    Downloades movies overseas

Hi...I downloaded some movies to my Ipad to watch while on vacation overseas since I know I would not be able to stream...my ipad Vudu app is requiring my password to open but this is not working...is this also because Im outside of the US? Wont i be able to watch my downloaded movies?

    Re: Downloades movies overseas

It all depends on what version of the Vudu app you currently have installed. Best thing to do is uninstall the app and then download the latest version from the app store. This will delete all previously downloaded content on your device though. The latest version of the app fixes the issue with offline playback.

Thanks for the answer...I do have the latest app version for Ipad, i will try what you say anyways, now if this deletes the downloaded content I assume this will also release the data space used for those downloads..right?

        Yes, that would be logical.

I am traveling in Mexico for the holidays and unable to watch the movies I downloaded with the iPad app. I am using version 2.1.1 and there doesn't appear to be a newer one.

          The problem is twofold.
1 - the app now requires internet connection to run, even if you just want to watch downloaded movies
2 - even if I do access wifi here to try to signin for the app, it rejects my login info because it's trying to use vudu.mx which has a different account set

          Not sure what to do

FelipeF, thanks for your answers but I just checked that I do have the latest version...hence I was supposed to be able to open the app without the need of being in the US or using the password (which does not work in Mexico) being on line (as the app is requesting), so the answer you are proposing is not correct. Bear in mind here the fact is that due to a mistake or glitch in the app we are being unable to see the downloads we payed for and are rightfully entitled to use anywhere in the world...your help and comments from the app developers/engineers will be greatly appreciated

Was this an upgrade to the latest version or a complete fresh install of the latest version?

What iOS device are you using? What iOS version is currently installed?

The motion picture studios have restricted their content to be viewed only within the United States, not Vudu.

I have an upgrade to the latest version, i use an Ipad 64GB 2nd Gen (the one previous to the Retina Display) with IOS 7.0.4. Now i do not think the problem is the restriction from the studios as this only applies for streaming. Downloading a movie is the same as buying the DVD or BR Disc, or I would not be able to see my downloaded movies from iTunes, which I can, the problem is on the app asking to be connected to a network to open and allow me to watch my downloaded movies, but forcing this to be a network in the US, this would be ok for streaming but is not ok for using payed/downloaded content anywhere in the world.

That's the issue, you've upgraded from a previous version of the iOS app. You will need to completely delete the app from your device and then download it again and install it. That's the fix. Others on this forum can verify this as well.

                      Re: Downloades movies overseas

This is pretty much what happened to me when I went overseas this summer. The Vudu iPad app worked fine on the plane on the way there, on our layover in Europe, and then in Africa. But then for some reason when I tried to use it on the plane on the way home, it wanted my Vudu password, and I didn't have an internet connection so I couldn't enter it (if I could even recall it without access to a computer). I did wind up deleting the app and reinstalling it when I got back, but if we have to do that every time there's an update to the app, that's a lot of deleting and re-downloading of movies.

Is there a fix in the works that might clear the credentials or user data without deleting the content? Or do we just need to wait for CFF, if and when it ever comes?

Oh, and on a related note, would deleting and reinstalling VuduToGo on my MacBook solve the issue of having to log in every time I run it, or is that intentional? Because that's also a pain, although of course not nearly as bad.

Yes, Felipe is posting incorrect information. I have tested the proposed solution and confirmed (as expected) it does not solve the problem, at least if you are still traveling. I posted a summary of the problem and the different solutions I see in another thread.

                        https://forum.vudu.com/showthread.ph...32#post1261932

To summarize the problem with the vudu app, while abroad (at least in Mexico), you will be unable to connect to vudu.com to authenticate your account. Because it gets autoredirected to vudu.mx. You can see the problem in a browser.

vudu needs to fix the network configuration problem with vudu.com. In the meantime you are better off not using the vudu app at all. Other ultraviolet players let you actually watch what you paid for offline mode. We are being cheated, but fortunately the competition does it right. It's a shame because vudu gives some good compression options for downloaded movies.

This only works once you are back in the US, and not while you are still abroad, as has already been confirmed by several people. I imagine you have not actually personally used the vudu app to watch movies offline while traveling abroad, otherwise you would have run into the problem where you cannot watch your downloaded movies offline (granted maybe this network configuration issue is recent so it may have worked in the past).

I encourage you to help us solve the problem rather than reiterate a solution that doesn't work. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a solution without giving vudu feedback that this use case does NOT work. Don't let vudu think its a problem with a user solution (short of not using vudu).

The most notable part of my issue this summer was that I was able to use the Vudu iPad app to watch downloaded movies while offline in the US, on the plane on the way out, and at a lodge at my destination. It was at the lodge in Tanzania where I briefly used their wifi, and it had one of those proxy redirects that sent all requests to the wifi access page. I'm wondering if that could have had anything to do with it, because the next time I tried to use the Vudu app was on the return flights, and that was when I got the login prompt even though the iPad was in airplane mode.

Max, as soon as you connect to the internet in a different region it resets your login on the vudu app. I imagine your login will not work either since it's not going to vudu.com but a different region based one (maybe depends on region). So you are screwed and will no longer be able to watch your offline movies until you connect your iPad to the internet from a US based IP.

Recommend not using vudu if you are traveling abroad and want to watch your movies offline. Other ultraviolet players work fine.
