    Information about movie availability
In order to provide the widest possible selection of movies, VUDU offers movies from a large number of studios, including all of the major Hollywood studios as well as many independent studios. Because each studio specifies when their movies are available to rent or to own, not all movies are available on the same schedule. For many new releases, the movie will be available to own on VUDU on the same day that the DVD is available to buy in stores, and it will be available to rent on VUDU a few weeks later.

Re: What's New on VUDU November 16, 2007

I have already watched Knocked Up, Next, Evan Almighty and A Mighty Heart on Netflicks. I am not going to wait until Vudu decides whether I am first going to buy the movie and then much later after it has been relased for rent to buy it.

Yeah, but must you watch them in the first 2 weeks after they are out?

I guess if you must, but I'm personally not really bothered to wait a couple weeks...

Quit putting this on Vudu - they aren't making the decision. If you are going to gripe, please at least be aware enough to point the blame at the studios, not at Vudu!

I don't really care who is making the decisions. My point is as long as I can get the movies somewhere else faster the less movies I would be renting from Vudu. We watch approximatly 3-4 movies a week.

I wish I had enough free time to watch 3-4 a week, I am lucky to get in 1 to 2. But what can I say with 5 kids they are the major consumers of video here...I certainly hope VUDU kids more kid friendly content.

              Dump the Junk VUDU

Wading through dozens and dozens of movies that barely pass the threshold of home movie just to find a quality film is getting tiresome. VUDU may advertise 5,000 movies but it would seem that many of them are poorly made crap.

I understand the argument that VUDU has a rich portfolio of indies (yeah, right). However, if anyone considers the junk I waded through "important", they should not be allowed to operate heavy machinery. These movies give the word "amateur" a bad name.

I can watch "Vampire Dentist" (check out the preview) but I have to wait for mainstream new releases way after Blockbuster gets them? I don't think so.

Re: What's New on VUDU November 16, 2007

If you look at most of the floor space of BlockBuster, there are very similar movies to the "crap" you say Vudu has. Netflix has 50,000 titles. Most of those probably don't rise to the standards of what you want either.

This box is in its infancy. This is just the beginning. The Vudu has better offerings than any other product it its class - period. Moviebeam never had the selection or quality. iTunes doesn't have the selection.

The business models of why the studios do what they do is mind-boggling complex. There are reasons why content might be available at Blockbuster first. But that model is slowly changing and is going to change.

People seem to not trust Vudu to grow and expand and develop. We defend constantly against the same criticisms over and over and over. However, in the 6 weeks or so since the box has been shipping look at what has been added:

                - 48 hour rental times for most indie studios
                - HD content availability has been announced
                - Network (TCP/IP) control of the boxes has been announced
                - Vudu has taken customer feedback and is implementing a "coming soon" section on the box

And there's more coming that we can't divulge at this point.

Right now if you are an impatient person and just must, absolutely must, most definitely see the next big movie the very day it's released on DVD, then perhaps Vudu isn't for you right now. If you are patient and can wait a couple of weeks, then it's the best experience for watching movies at home that there is.

For the thousandth time: The studios have a particular paradigm of how their sales model should work. The current model is physical DVD purchase and rental. They are very leery of new technologies and since most of their business structure revolved around content licensing as opposed to content distribution, they tend to be very cautious with anything new.

                Please give it time...

If you are wading though movies why don't you adjust your search settings. I usually use 2, 3, and 4 stars and then the year released alond with a category. That gets rids of what you term "crap". This is on of the reasons why the VUDU folks gave us such a robust search interface.

Also the "crap" as you referred to is usually mandated to be carried via distribution agreements. Look at the cable movie channels how much "crap" is there vs what folks actually watch? I can confess that I can count on one hand every month the number of 4 to 4 star movies HBO or Showtime broadcast....

Ron, I'm seeing junk movies on VUDU that I've NEVER seen anywhere else. These look like action/horror etc... movies you'd find in a Bangkok cinema bargin bin. This really isn't debatable, you know what movies I'm talking about and how they populate throughout the genres.

I was also unaware there was a "junk movie" filter. But you know most filters are very unreliable as are rating systems. I'm just asking for VUDU to be more selective about what movies they agree to carry and dump the trash. It hurts more than it helps their cause. I would rather they carry a strong library of quality products than just brag about some number in they have in stock.

                      NA9D,

I agree with your post, except for the Moviebeam comment. The quality of the Moviebeam movies was pretty good, especially the HD offerings. Too bad though that the selection was not good.

Those action/horror ones that you are referring to may have been seen by other folks. Heck a lot of the older horror movies that the VUDU has listed brings back some memories Its what I used to watch Saturday afternoon's on the B movie theaters when I was little and the parents weren't around.

I find it refreshing that I am able to watch how bad some of these movies are from an adult point of view vs. when I was a kid. And for 99 cents its not a bad deal and my kids even have fun watching some of these.

Please Vudu, do not listen to feedback like this. I would really rather decide for myself what movies I want to watch and not let others decide they are not good enough for me. I also promise not to suggest movies that you should not carry as I don't believe I can speak for everyone else either.

Just for the hell of it I decided to check out vudu movies before 1950 and I came across a Three Stoges film for 99 cents. It sure made me laugh and brought back childhood memories. I saw Abbott and Costelo which was one of my favorites growing up. I was looking for the Marx Brother but did not see them. Hey would have known.

I used to watch the Abbott and Costelo every Sunday morning on Channel 7 in Detroit. Now if they just had Dagwood and Blondie along with the Bowery Boys....

I am glad VUDU put these in the library...they are still funny today...who's on first, what's on second, I don't know on thrid.
