    1080p option not working

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to Vudu, so please forgive me if this is a repeated question.

I am having problems with setting my vudu box to output in 1080p. Every time I set select and confirm this resolution, it falls back to 1080i. Now, I have my vudu connected to my Sony XBR4 via my Onkyo receiver. The receiver passes through a 1080p/24 signal (via PS3) all the time. So I am confused why my vudu won't pass through the high bandwidth signal.

Please any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I looked up the XBR4 series and assuming yours is the same specs as the one at http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665116632 it looks like it supports 24fps just fine.

Perhaps your reciever is not performing the HDCP handshake correctly and reporting to the vudu that 1080p24fps is supported by the monitor. As a test, connect the vudu directly to the monitor HDMI port and see what happens. When you report your results back here include the exact model number of your Sony and your Onkyo. Also post your system ID so the engineers can see what the Vudu is getting back from the receiver.

Does that happen when you manually select 1080p in Video Settings? I thought, that was supposed to force the resolution.

        Hi,
are you saying that we you do confirm 1080p and we fall back to 1080i anyways? I have never seen this. If 1080p/24 fails you would not see the confirmation screen.

Can you please try to connect to your Sony directly and see if you see the same issue.

Can you also please double check if you are really properly confirming.

Finally, can you please provide your System ID.

        Thanks,
        Volker

          Re: 1080p option not working

First let me say "thanks" to all of the responses. I didn't expect them so quickly.

I do believe that the problem is with the HDMI handshake between the vudu box and my receiver (Onkyo 875). My statement in my initial post was incorrect. Though the 1080p option was available, the vudu box never push out that signal. The screen would go black and then return with the 1080i signal, when I tried to change the output.

So, my next option was to trick the box by connecting the vudu box (via HDMI) to the Sony, then changing the vudu output to 1080p. It worked and I verified it via the Sony display. After ensuring that the vudu signal was locked at 1080p, I reconnected it (via HDMI) to the Onkyo receiver to see if the vudu box would continue to output the 1080p signal and that the signal would reach the display. Well, it worked. So, I guess I got it to work in a round about way.

          Mike

This is good to know as Volker and his team will probably be able to investigate further and fix this issue in a future release. Thanks for reporting back.

Please post your system ID so the engineers can track down the root cause of the problem. While it's great that we got you past the glitch, they'll want to fix it for future users.

Sorry, I forgot to put my system ID. My system ID is 0xb974.

                One More un-related Question:

Is there anything I can do to help the vudu box populate the movie images and information?

I still have movies with no images associated with it.

Nope.. It just fills them in over the next couple of days. What's going on is that originally, the Vudu would download all the updates - movie heads, artwork, meta-data, etc. all at once. This would take several days and you wouldn't have all the movies available as quickly. Now what it does is download all the movie heads first. Then you have access to all the content quicker. After that, it then goes back and downloads everything else.

The heads are the first 30 seconds of each movie - it's how the Vudu plays instantly with no waiting.
