    HDX Download Question!

Hi All, Well, Got my Vudu installed and I've watched a few SD & HD movies with it. Had a few minor hiccups on a HD movie but no biggie. I might mention I am installed via ethernet and my average download speed is 8808 kbps and upload speed is 5929 kbps. Figured I'd download an HDX movie and watch it. Accomplished the download this past weekend and got around to watching it last night. The movie was Inside Man/HDX. I would say that 80% of the film was great, but the other 20% had hiccups where the audio dropped out and wasn't synced with the video, etc. Unfortunately, it occurred during two critical scenes in the film, so we had to surmise the outcome. Does this happen often? Am I doing something incorrect? Are there better times of the day for large downloads like this? Say a weeknight? I live in central NJ. Any advice would be great. Thanks, DJ

    Hello debussyj and welcome!

HDX should not glitch at all no matter what time of the day or day of the week you play it.
Please contact Customer Support to have this resolved. We may be able to look at the state of your box and figure out what happened.

    Cheers,

    -- Greg

I've rented a fair number of HDX movies. They all played flawlessly, except for Fred Claus (we watched it yesterday).

There are about 3 scenes where the video and audio become choppy to the point you can't understand what is being said. The first one occurs in the bathroom scene with Fred and the Head Elf. The next one occurs I believe at around 1 Hr 4 Min into the movie where Fred is talking with the efficiency expert. Can't remember the 3rd one. But they were all very discrete points in the film and corrected itself as soon as the scene was over.

I'm tempted to blame it on my TV, but because I've watched other HDX titles without a problem, I not so sure what the problem is.

I have a Samsung 120Hz LCD with the VUDU set to 1080/24p. I was going to try and replay the scenes with the box set to 1080i, but never got around to it before the movie expired.

Absolutely every Vudu movie should play without glitches (SD/HD/HDX), anything else would be unacceptable. If you ever have a problem with a title that seems to be technology related you should call customer service to address the problem (which they always do promptly).

Right. You usually get a credit and then, I assume, VUDU goes back and corrects the encode.

I reviewed my TV settings and found that the AMP (Auto Motion Plus) setting was ON. I believe this is a feature that is known to cause syncing problems, so I turned it OFF.

Unfortunately, short of re-renting Fred Claus again, I can't verify that it was the cause of the problem. (hint, hint)

Is your "extended rental" window still open? If so, spend a buck to see if your problem was self inflicted - if the content is still bad, then contact support for resolution of the matter. If athe problem is solved you know it was never Vudu's fault to begin with.

It's actually 2 bucks, but you shamed me into it, so I stole some money from my Spread the Cheese Foundation to pay for it.

The results were kinda strange and somewhat inconclusive.

I initially tried the scene at the 1:04 mark and reproduced the problem.

So I tried setting the VUDU video to 1080i to try that. When I did I got a solid green screen and was unable to get a picture from VUDU. So I repowered the VUDU box and the screen came back at 1080i.

So I played the scene again and this time it played fine.

So I set the VUDU video back to 1080p and played the scene again. It played fine.

I then tried watching the other couple of scenes I had problems and they all played fine as well.

So I turned the AMP feature on my TV back on and tried the scene again. And it played fine this time.

So I think I can rule out the encoding as the problem, but I'm now stumped as to what actually caused it, because I can't duplicate the problem now.

                  Re: HDX Download Question!

This does remind me that the first law of techno-dynamics does apply to Vudu - If you have a problem, reboot, and then see if the problem goes away.

BTW, did this Fred Claus problem happen the first time with the 2.0 software, or after you started using the 2.1 Vudu Labs software?

                    It was post 2.1

I also did a reboot the day I received 2.1 to get the VUDU Labs menu button to show up.

Also prior to watching the movie, I goofed around watching some of the titles on the VUDU Labs menu. But haven't done so since.

You might want to PM JohnA and let him know about your problem - be sure to include your system ID so he can research the glitch you experienced.
