    Not Impressed by VUDU

I have to say I am disappointed in the way the Vudu box has to be setup. I purchased a used vudu box & NOBODY will help me set it up over the phone...They give some ridiculous response that it has to be done via email! Not the response I was looking for....I did receive a response this evening, but it does not appear to be linked to my account yet. Atleast with my Blockbuster 2wire on demand box I can get phone support, although the Vudu box appears to be a much nicer box than Blockbuster, there IS phone support when needed.

It looks like JohnA (from Customer Support) is online right now. Why don't you PM a message to him and I'll bet he'll hook you up.

You will be impressed when you see it working.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Vudu has to confirm from the previous owner that they really have released ownership of the box to you (instead of it being a stolen box that was sold to you by an unscrupulous theif). It may take a couple days to get it resolved, which will not really impact you in the grand scheme of things - and when it is all said and done you will have the benefits of receiving better quality HD movies than those other services, not to mention the worlds largest HD library (even bigger than Blu-Ray).

While I personally think the OP overreacted a bit, he does make a point. I think it is comforting to new customers to be able to reach somebody on the phone. While I understand cost cutting, etc., maybe this should be reconsidered.

Yeah, I agree. There are enough posts from new owners coming here with questions to justify some sort of initial phone support to make sure they get everything up & running, e.g. initial set-up only or, say, 30 days.

P.S. I can understand abandoning VUDU for AppleTV, but Blockbuster's box? That thing is a joke and that's coming from a person who prefers Blockbuster Online to Netflix (grandfathered unlimited plan = win).

Yes I agree from the looks of the Vudu box it appears much nicer than the blockbuster box. But if I can't use the vudu box & I can't reach vudu for support when I want to use the device, then the Blockbuster box will have to be the one for me. If there is a problem with the blockbuster box I can always reach someone immediately & rectify the problem + they give me credit back for the movie in question. I don't want a box where I have to wait for a day for support to help me when it was last night when the wife & I wanted to watch a movie not the following day. Surely Vudu can front the cost of someone to man a phone line. My Ooma voip phone is a small company & they provide 5 star service & have phone support. They are one of the best company's for support that I have ever dealt with.

                Re: Not Impressed by VUDU

Vudu has no telephone support for consumers. Support is done via e-mail and if you send in a support request they are generally VERY quick to get back to you, many times by phone.

Please just follow the procedures as spelled out and chill a little. The box will impress you once it's up and running.

Yes, I am still "Chillin" and have been for quite some time now. It looks like have about 35 minutes left until they close. Then I will have to "Chill" until their support opens for business tomorrow.

Well, it could be that they are doing stuff behind the scenes like Ed suggested. They do need the original owner's permission to release the box to you. Please be patient. The support staff is very good and they will get you taken care of. There's a lot of new users right now with the Holidays and everyone wants to use their box NOW. Unfortunately, things happen and support cannot literally get to everyone simultaneously. Many times the support guys work long after official support hours.

                      Hey There,
I'm a new member as well and have been going through much the same issue as you. I would really, really like to get this service up and running as it was a gift to my parents for Christmas, however I've been waiting for several days for them to remotely reset the box and reactivate it with no response at all. It's a shame, as I'll be leaving to go back to my home in the next few days and I don't think that they'll be able to set it up myself.
I can understand not having phone support for cost-cutting measures, but I would at least suggest that they adopt some form of live online tech support as this has all been *incredibly* frustrating.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us and also that someone from the Vudu company will read this post.

This is the best place to come and is the closest to live support.

Vudu handles all request in a First In - First Out order. That is what is fair to everyone. Your requests are noted and are in queue. Please be patient. The support staff is flooded after the Holidays. You will get serviced and you will love the box.

If the box was obtained deviously, wouldn't he be able to use the box as-is using the other persons account??

If it was obtained legitimately, then wouldn't he still be able to use the box as-is, until the original owner cancelled their account.

If the orginal owner cancelled their account, why would VUDU need to get approval to reinitialize the box with a new account??

Well, the box I received was still "live" on the previous owners account. Certainly I could have just ran with it that way and rented a bunch of movies on the other guys tab - lucky for him I wouldn't think of doing such. I think we are dealing with such a new concept that the folks deciding to sell their used Vudu's don't understand the procedure and what they are risking.
