I think we are dealing with such a new concept that the folks deciding to sell their used Vudu's don't understand the procedure and what they are risking.
In my case I bought it from a lady, who I just called & asked her if she canceled her account. She said she cancelled her credit card and thought that was good enough. I asked her to cancel her vudu account. According to her there is still credit on the account. I don't know if that credit will follow the box when it transfers to my name & I don't want to just start renting movies on someone elses account.

While we're waiting for Vudu support to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, if you don't mind my asking, what did you have to pay for this "used" box? (I'll understand if your response is MYOB)

Well I suppose this is a gray area of ethics, but depending how well you know this person, since their credit card is not valid, they may allow you to logon to their account and you could then add your credit card to that account and change userid and psw.

I mean if I got it from a friend or realative, it wouldn't be a problem for me.

I just checked my own account and verified that no credit card info is displayed and it can be changed to another card number.

            Re: Not Impressed by VUDU

I couldn't find the enhancement request thread, so I'll do it here.

I would recommend adding a feature in the Advanced Settings to Deactivate (EDIT: Or Reactivate) the Box.

I first thought about having it added to the User Account, but it would get complicated for people having more than one box.

And it would also allow a new owner to do it without having to contact or get permission from the seller of a used box (i.e. Ebay sellers, etc.)

                Re: Not Impressed by VUDU

I did receive an email this evening from support. I guess I very well may have "Over Reacted" a bit. I am one who prefers live tech support as opposed to an email type of a system. I guess maybe that is how things are going to be in the future with how company's provide support? Believe me I want this Vudu box experience to be better than what blockbuster has to offer, because it does indeed appear to be a much more "Polished" device than Blockbusters. If I had chosen to purchase a new box, I'm sure it would have been a painless setup.

                  Re: Not Impressed by VUDU

I wish live support was still there as well. But the cost of having it with actual support people who are knowledeable and technical (and not reading a script) is extremely expensive.

No idea. I'd ask a staff person.

I'm really not being Schultzy about this. I really do not know how they handle it. It's not that I know and can't tell - I really don't know...

Why wait for Shultzy when Carnac has the answers at his fingertips?

Consider the Best Buy promo - Vudu kept a log of all the Vudu system ID's they shipped to Best Buy. They input this information into an electronic automated information processing device (aka computer) sort of like this one

When a Vudu system with the registered BB system ID is activated before the posted deadline, the elctronica automated information processing device knows to put $200 in Vudu Bucks into the owners account, which suddenly looks like this:

Then the electronic automated information processing device follows a simplified series of logical tasks and specific directions (aka program) to keep track of the customer's account. Some Vudu bucks have relatively short lives (i.e. the Best Buy bucks expire in 120 days, so use them or lose them), other Vudu bucks may not (i.e. the Holiday $149 special had $50 in Vudu Bucks with no published expiration date). While it is hard to imagine the complexity of keeping track of the special deal for each Vudu box, the electronic automated information processing device is able to handle this task with ease!

Hope y'all have a happy new year.

                              Re: Not Impressed by VUDU

I think I would have been satisfied with something like: "VUDU is able to track their boxes sent to wholesalers and have the ability to match up those boxes with various promotions upon box activation".

But I liked your explanation way better!!!!

I was initially thinking that VUDU Customer Reps were taking care of this task.
