I really think EF was just trying to be funny with this one, so I want to give him a pass. If you read the OP as if he couldn't figure out how to physically setup his system (vs. the actual problem of transferring a used Vudu to a new owner account), then I almost agree with the "return to the original owner" diagnosis. The Vudu really is easy to setup, and if you actually needed phone support to plug in AV cables, then perhaps you aren't quite ready for a VOD system as powerful as a Vudu.

True, but that had already been pointed out in a friendlier fashion some time ago. Also, this thread had pretty much ended over a week ago so there really wasn't the need for opening it up again like that.

I hope he's since got every thing set up okay. This tread probably belongs in first-time setup (and the title should be changed to something more representative of the actual problem to help others searching for similar issues).

I think I would have been satisfied with something like: "VUDU is able to track their boxes sent to wholesalers and have the ability to match up those boxes with various promotions upon box activation".

But I liked your explanation way better!!!!

I was initially thinking that VUDU Customer Reps were taking care of this task.

Why wait for Shultzy when Carnac has the answers at his fingertips?

Consider the Best Buy promo - Vudu kept a log of all the Vudu system ID's they shipped to Best Buy. They input this information into an electronic automated information processing device (aka computer) sort of like this one

When a Vudu system with the registered BB system ID is activated before the posted deadline, the elctronica automated information processing device knows to put $200 in Vudu Bucks into the owners account, which suddenly looks like this:

Then the electronic automated information processing device follows a simplified series of logical tasks and specific directions (aka program) to keep track of the customer's account. Some Vudu bucks have relatively short lives (i.e. the Best Buy bucks expire in 120 days, so use them or lose them), other Vudu bucks may not (i.e. the Holiday $149 special had $50 in Vudu Bucks with no published expiration date). While it is hard to imagine the complexity of keeping track of the special deal for each Vudu box, the electronic automated information processing device is able to handle this task with ease!

Hope y'all have a happy new year.

I'm really not being Schultzy about this. I really do not know how they handle it. It's not that I know and can't tell - I really don't know...

If I had chosen to purchase a new box, I'm sure it would have been a painless setup.

I wish live support was still there as well. But the cost of having it with actual support people who are knowledeable and technical (and not reading a script) is extremely expensive.

I couldn't find the enhancement request thread, so I'll do it here.

I would recommend adding a feature in the Advanced Settings to Deactivate (EDIT: Or Reactivate) the Box.

I first thought about having it added to the User Account, but it would get complicated for people having more than one box.

And it would also allow a new owner to do it without having to contact or get permission from the seller of a used box (i.e. Ebay sellers, etc.)
