    Once You've Rented a Movie....

...and its 24 hour period is done, does it stay on your hard drive for P2P?

I know that after the 24 hour period has elapsed, it's no longer available for viewing (unless it can be extended).

But does a non-accessible copy stay on your hard drive for P2P?

And if so, is your hard drive space compromised?

Or... is the rental truly erased?

And if it is erased, when does that happen?

Like most of us, I really want to know how this works.

The movie will stay on your box for some period after the expiration. How long that is has not been disclosed. The important part is that any expired content like this is not considered as taking up disc space. So if you buy/rent another movie and that space is needed, then the expired content is replaced with new content. So having it on the box does not cause any lack of resources to you.

That has not been my experience. After watching a rental, it stays on my box until the extended viewing period is over. When my box was full there was no way for me to rent any more titles until my viewed rentals fell off. And that did not happen until the period they offer you to extend the rental had expired.
There should be an option to say you don't want to extend the rental so it will allow the box to download more content when full.

That's a good point. I think the assumption is that most people have enough room so keeping the movie on the box is a good idea as it will take zero resources to watch it again. But you are right - if it is preventing you from downloading a new movie, then it should be removed from the box. We'll have to see if we can suggest that as a new feature for a future release.

Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it.

So to take this one step further...I downloaded 'the Dark Knight' in HDX, and watched it. The rental period has now expired.

I'm thinking that if I re-rent it in HDX, there's a chance I won't have the 6-hour download, if it's still on the hard drive.

I've rented very few movies, so there's no chance it would have been 'bumped' due to my lack of hard drive space.

I'll try that today and report back to you.

          And...Happy New Year!

Yes, if you re-rent Dark Night on the extended rental, it should be watchable right away.
