    Question for VUDU fans

I'm trying to do a review of VUDU and other streaming services, and was wondering why YOU like VUDU and what you consider it's key positive points. I know what the shortcomings are, just looking for the positive aspects, thanks!

Mostly I'm looking for why you prefer VUDU over something like iTunes or Amazon.

I have wanted a way to digitize my entertainment library for about a decade. First there were Juke Boxes, but they were expensive. Then you could rip and use Plex, but that was a bit of a pain. AppleTV/iTunes works, but you need to agree to purchase iOS deceives for the rest of your natural life if you go that route.

Vudu has the best of both worlds. A digitized media library and no tie into a single company.

Cool, so you like their D2D thing and that it's OS agnostic. Any preference between VUDU and Amazon if you hadn't already gone with VUDU?

        Two thoughts.

Amazon does not have a D2D program.

Second, Amazon is a single company. Vudu ties the library to a vendor agnostic digital rights locker.

Those two things sealed the deal for me.

The best thing about Vudu is that I can watch it on a TV. Everyone has some device that streams Vudu to your TV. MY DVD player and my PS3 do it. My brother streams it through a Roku. Only one of the devices in my house can stream Amazon, and NONE OF THEM stream Itunes. Itunes is only good if you have apple tv, and who has that?

Also, organization. Vudu allows me to alphabetize my collection, or search by genre. Vudu is simply the most convenient.

Besides what others have mentioned, I like Vuvu over other UV retailers because I can access a full list of my 1300 movies and television shows quickly. While they are not organized in a manner that we effortlessly find movies, they do at least load very fast. You may not really want to include this because I have noticed that other companies seem to be improving their response time. M-GO still loads my movies very slow on the Roku device, but on the website it seems like they load faster than they used to.

Separate from the streaming service is this forum. Does this count? What other retailer has a forum that allows UV users to chat like this? While we don't have total freedom to discuss UV, I guess something is better than nothing.

One initial draw, which others have caught up with, was the HDX option, giving 1080p picture with Dolby 7.1 sound. This was the pinacle of streaming quality.

My biggest draw, however, was the option to upgrade most of my DVD collection to said HDX quality without spending $12-20 per movie to repurchase.

The UV connection is an added layer of certainty, as Walter said. And, if a title I buy on Vudu becomes UV later, it gets added to the UV library.

One more plus is the ability to share the UV titles with other family members, which neither iTunes nor Amazon allow (AFAIK).

While not something that separates it from all other services, I appreciate the ability to download movies on a variety of devices including PC, PS3, and iPad.

Finally, the expectation of an eventual link to Disney Movies Anywhere has given me the confidence to purchase Disney directly from Vudu instead of iTunes. My goal is to get as much of my content available in one service as I can to eventually remove the need for an HTPC. With currently available D2D library and a Vudu link to DMA I'd be at over 90% of my catalog titles on Vudu.

                Re: Question for VUDU fans

I started by choosing UV, so I was not locked to one retail source. That's why I didn't choose iTunes. I prefer to be able to buy my movies where I want to get them, and not be locked into one source. Between the UV sources, VUDU has the best selection and HDX for more titles than anyone. I also like that Walmart stands behind them (since 2010), and partners for UV content. Walmart has added more content to my UV library than any other source.

Since I joined they added D2D, and I've used it a lot, but it was not an option when I selected VUDU.

Amazon was just getting into video mid-2012 when I chose VUDU. Even if I had to make the choice again today, UV feels like a safer bet.

I travel full-time, so streaming is not a great option for me. I need to download movies to watch them on airplanes, or from my hotel room. Everyone was still pushing streaming back in 2012.

                  Re: Question for VUDU fans

Disc to digital has to be the main draw for me. I like being able to upgrade my dvds to high def without having to pay a huge price to do it in the comfort of my own home. I like the fact that I can convert blu rays as well. Picture quality is a huge plus over any other service as well. Being able to share my movies with a couple of close friends is great too.
