While waiting external storage is a potential cause, I think VUDUPatrick posted that it's really due to studio restrictions. With Blu-Ray not yet fully established, they don't want competition.

I don't know if the sale is still going on, but I think HD/HDX movies were 24: Redemption, Unleashed, Riddick, and Pitch Black (last three in R and Unrated versions).

My external hard drive is still waiting and ready that I prepared last Sping/Summer in anticipation of the external storage. Although now I'll need to dump the 750GB drive I put in it for a 1TB drive.(WD green drives)

Also keep in mind that right now you can only purchase about 50 SD movies (at 1.3-1.5 gigs a movie) before you max out your Hard Drive Storage. Of which equals your only being allowed about 65-75 gigs of actual space for personal storage (1.3 x 50/1.5 x 50), out of the 250 gigs on the internal Hard Disk Drive. So if you imagine wanting to purchase HD movies and you only have 65-75 gigs available for HD storage on the box, as it is right now your talking only about 13-15 HD movies of space available before you would max out the available space for purchases. Making that an impractical option, which is why they need to resolve the external storage expansion before they allow people to start purchasing HD content.

    Re: HD Movie Purchases...

There were a handful of HD and HDX movies available for purchase during the Vudu Black Friday sale ($4.99 purchase prices).

For now there are not any HD/HDX purchase options in the system. I expect this to change when 2 things happen:

    1) The studios get over their aversion to the concept (the recent Black Friday sales were an indicator they are starting to warm up to this).

    2) The external storage expansion issue gets addressed - otherwise you will be able to fill your standard Vudu 250GB HDD pretty fast.

Keep in mind that right now no Digital Download service is allowed to regularly offer purchase of HD content.

    HD Movie Purchases...

I am perplexed as to how you go about buying HD movies on Vudu.

When you view all the movies, the way they have the movie and prices listed... it seems you can only buy the movie in SD since they put the purchase price under the SD column.

I purchased 3 HD movies back in the day (the Bourne series) and have not purchased any since... I was thinking of purchasing Wall-E... but I don't want to buy it if it is SD.

Does Vudu still offer HD movies for purchase?

Are all the movies available for purchase in HD?

Any shedding of light will be appreciated.
