    took the plunge..

Well, the most recent special offer did it for me. Ordered vudu and wireless kit. looking forward to it.

Incidentally, when it asked me for my credit card info again during account creation, has it already charged me an additional $20, prior to my unit even shipping, must less being received?

That's still your money - you just have to have a postive account balance to be able to rent/purchase anything. If for some onforseen reason you decide you don't like the Vudu they will refund your unused account balance.

No, it should not have charged your account the $20 until you activate AFAIK. Ordering a Vudu box is not the same as setting up an account for service.

Jon, you know I hate to contradict you, but if you'd take the time to try setting up a sock puppet account you would be notified of the following on the "Create Your Account Profile" screen:

Please enter your credit card information and select an amount. This charge will establish a positive balance on your account.

Your movie purchases and rentals will be debited against this balance. When the balance is depleted, we will charge your credit card the amount you selected. This will automatically replenish your account.

You can change the pre-set amount at any time by visiting your account page.
Creating an account happens independently, and prior to, activating a Vudu on the account.

Further research shows that the OP did not understand that you can order from the Vudu online store without creating a Vudu account. In this case, the purchaser intends to watch movies, so he needed the account anyway. If for some reason somebody is feeling generous and wanted to purchase Vudu's for other people, and they made the same mistake, they could get their $20 refunded per the Vudu T's&C's - simply cancel your account and you get your balance back.

That's what I was trying to say. If you ordered from the store w/o creating an account then there would be no charge. This is what I figured the OP had done. But once you create your viewing account, then yes, the charge is made.

Just to note: when I ordered one of the units on the Holiday Special, my card was charged in two transactions to cover the full amount of the unit. I'm not sure if one was tax & shipping or why that was. But it was still the right amount in total.

Same thing happened to me, 136.65 and 21.35 - adds up to $158 so it's OK, but strange. Have you been credited for the $50 on your account?

Remember - you don't get that $50 credit until AFTER you receive the box and activate it on your Vudu account.
