    Vudu and Slingbox PRO HD

I'm curious as to whether anyone's tried using a Slingbox PRO HD in conjunction with the Vudu box... It seems like it'd be a great match, but I wanted to get confirmation that it'd work okay and there wouldn't be any drawbacks.

I'm quite sure someone on here has mentioned using it before (NA9D maybe?).

I've been curious about this as well.

Yes, I do it all the time. SlingMedia has not released an official IR code for the box, but there is a codeset out there that has been developed. It's not perfect as some of the buttons are not completely correct. Both Wandrew and I have worked on this. Another Vudu user, SVincent, loaded the codes into his JP1 system and did this to program his JP1 remote. Things aren't quite perfect like I'd like (for example, the Guide button takes you to the Vudu home page and not the Menu button). I think the only way to fix this would be to reload the code set from the beginning into JP1 but I've not had time to do that yet.

Attached is the remote file. Unzip it and it should be called Y2047_PL.bin. Put this in your c:\program files\SlingMedia\Sling Player\SBAV directory. In the device setup choose a device type of "Other" and Brand of "Other." The enter the custom remote code of Y2047. It should work. SlingPlayer will think it's a VCR of all things! I've sent the code sets to people I know well at SlingMedia and will continue to press them to get an official remote code added to the database, but nothing as of yet.

Now, the thing to be aware of is that unless you have a Vudu XL, the component output of the Vudu is only 480p. So having a ProHD model doesn't buy you a lot over the other Slingbox models to use. I do have an XL but I use my Pro's HD Connect input for the Vudu. My ProHD is hooked to my TivoHD.

Let me know if you need any more help.

I would assume that you need the IR kit as well for this to work? Or does the XL have a hidden IR port that I don't see anywhere?

For some reason I just saw this. You need the IR kit for all boxes.

I just got my IR kit from Vudu, hooked it up, followed the instructions above, and it works beautifully. Thanks!

Re: Vudu and Slingbox PRO HD

Thanks a million, NA9D. More importantly, apologies for the near 9 months delayed response (I ended-up on an overseas project for a bit and am just getting back to the States now).

I'm ordering the IR kit from Vudu to try this out. While I wait for the shipment to arrive, does anyone have any updates to this pairing of Vudu + Slingbox?

Has Slingbox implemented an official remote code to their database? Are there any more elegant ways now of connecting the two?

No, SlingMedia has not released an official IR code for the Vudu as far as I know.

As for a more elegant way - no, this is it. All devices controlled by a Slingbox function this way - via an IR blaster coming from the Slingbox.

Glad I was able to help.
