Two UV enabled titles are not appearing in my Vudu account

So another UV provider was having a sale. I bought two movies, and made sure that both had the UV logo. They did. Neither one is showing in Vudu.

The funny thing is that one of the two films DOES NOT have the UV logo here on Vudu. That film is Silent Night, Deadly Night. But on the site where I purchased it did *DID* have the UV logo next to it.

The other film (the R rated version of Kingpin) was marked as UV on both sites.

I check a few other UV providers. Silent Night, Deadly Night is showing on all of them except Vudu.

Kingpin is showing on NONE of them aside from the one I purchased it on.

    This is unexpected.

Vudu's R-rated version has some incorrect metadata. It shows it as PG-13, despite noting the R-rating in the title, and it also shows it as UV-enabled, which I'm betting is also an error. I think only the theatrical version (the one that's PG-13 and selling for $9.99) is probably the only UV-enabled version of the two. The competitor you're referring to, when I checked, had only the PG-13 one listed as UV. Their R-rated version did not, which would explain why it didn't port over to Vudu. It's possible the R-rated one will eventually become UV-enabled as well, but I'm betting that Vudu's listing is an error. Hopefully Dan or another mod can look into this further.

Well that explains it to a degree.

I can say for absolute certain that the other site has both the R and the PG-13 marked as 'uv'. I always double check before I purchase.

The Silent Night, Deadly Night is really weird because every site shows it as UV except Vudu, and likewise it is showing everywhere except Vudu.

UPDATE: OK, this is weird. I just double checked, and you are correct -- they do NOT show the R rated version as being UV, only the PG-13 *BUT* for the cover art, they marked both as being the R rated.

Re: Two UV enabled titles are not appearing in my Vudu account

You're correct, the competitor had the incorrect key art for the PG-13-rated, UV-designated theatrical version. So given the fact that 2 different providers both have errors in their listings for this movie, I'd say that fault also lies with the distributor, Paramount, for not making things clear. At one point this morning, both services also advertised bonus features for the film (Vudu advertised bonus features for the PG-13 version, the other service advertised bonus features for the R-rated version), but any mention of bonus features on either service has since been removed, and again I believe Paramount did not make things very clear for either service.

One other possible error is in the competitor's pricing for the R-rated version, which was $11 cheaper than Vudu's R-rated version, and $3 cheaper than the competitor's own PG-13-rated version. Makes no sense! I decided to bite the bullet and purchased Vudu's R-rated version, and sure enough, despite it saying 'UV', it did not port over into any of my other UV providers. I think the metadata on Vudu's R-rated version needs to be fixed.

Another twist to the story: The other retailer sold me BOTH versions for one price. They added both the R rated and the PG 13 rated versions into my library, however neither ported over to this or any other UV retailer.

You should double-check today to see if KINGPIN (the R-rated version) ported over to Vudu. My copy, which I purchased on Vudu, is now porting over to the other providers, so the R-rated version is definitely UV-enabled, much to my surprise.

Mine has not as of yet ported over.

I can't believe that BOTH titles I purchased are having this problem.

Silent Night Deadly Night did port over to everywhere EXCEPT Vudu. I opened a ticket last night. I think the issue is that Vudu did not mark Silent Night Deadly Night as being UV (but it is).

Re: Two UV enabled titles are not appearing in my Vudu account

I am so confused now. I just got off the phone with the OTHER UV retailer who sold me these titles. They said that Kingpin is not appearing in my UV locker because I bought the UV version which is not UV enabled. Ok. Except is *IS* UV enabled here on Vudu, and JeffH said that the version he bought here on Vudu is appearing in his UV locker. But it is not UV enabled on the site where I made the purchase.

And back to Silent Night Deadly Night. I bought it on a site where it was UV enabled and it is appearing in my UV locker, but Vudu does NOT show it as UV enabled and it's not showing on here.

So this brings up whole new questions: is it up to the individual suppliers to UV enable a film? So if Vudu enables UV on Silent Night Deadly Night today, it'll suddenly be in my vudu library? Doesn't that fly in the very face of what UV is supposed to be? It's supposed to be a shared file in the UV cloud that is viewable on any device or supplier that shows UV content, right? I buy it here and watch it there. Right? If one individual can decide not to UV enable a title that is supposed to be UV enabled, doesn't the whole house of cards falls? What was a popular movie this summer? Let's take Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as an example. That was a big hit. So the Blu-Ray comes out and has a UV code. I redeem it here but Vudu decides not to UV enable it. Suddenly the who concept of UV starts to fall apart.

Am I missing something? If it's UV enabled on one supplier, so it should be on all, right? It's either UV or it isn't. There shouldn't be grey area of "it's UV on here, but not on there".

I'm asking to see if this will be UV enabled at some point. I'll keep you posted.

                      Update:
Silent Night, Deadly Night will be UV enabled on VUDU later today.

                        WOOOO HOOOO!!!

To quote Balki, "Now I am so happy, I do the dance of joy!" (<-- I'm quite simple, really)

But Dan, could you please clarify the bigger issue? Is it up to each individual supplier to enable the UV? I always thought it happened behind the at the studio level. It's confusing.
