Walmart?s Vudu streaming service has joined Apple?s iTunes and Google?s Play store to support Disney Movies Anywhere.

The retailer will become available through Disney?s app on Nov. 18.

Disney has been aggressive in lining up digital storefronts to support DMA, since the app?s launch in February.

The app offers access to over 400 Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies, with purchased titles stored in the cloud so that they can accessed on any mobile devices with an internet connection. That includes smartphones and tablets to smart TVs.

In addition, Disney is using DMA to distribute short form content and entice users to make more purchases through a point-based reward system.

DMA added Google Play last week, meaning that the Disney service is now supported on Android-powered devices. The system powers 80% of the world?s mobile devices.

Disney sees DMA as a way to encourage more sales of its movies on digital platforms, as more consumers turn to mobile devices to view entertainment.

Link doesn't work, but it does turn up in searches. Still, it may be an error; 101 Dalmatians 2/II (the animated sequel) is supposed to be "in the Vault" with the original, just like the other DisneyToon straight-to-video sequels to "in the Vault" DACs (i.e., Return to Never Land went back to the Vault with Peter Pan, but not the Tinker Bell/Disney Fairies series).

That's different from the live-action 101 Dalmatians (already available on Vudu) and its sequel 102 Dalmatians (apparently going on sale Tuesday). Though those two went "in the Vault" on DVD along with the original (and have never been released on Blu-ray), they are NOT "in the Vault" on digital; iTunes has had them for months. (I bought the live-action 101 myself from iTunes; it imported to Google Play when it joined DMA, and it should import to Vudu on Tuesday.)

101 Dalmatians Patches adventure is supposed to be in the vault but it does allow you to buy it on Vudu now and the HDX price is lower than it normally would be I bought it, so im curious to see what happens going forward with it being in the vault

Fox also retains theatrical, nontheatrical, and home video rights worldwide for the franchise's five subsequent films through May 2020, at which time ownership will transfer to Disney. This complex relationship between Fox and Disney, particularly in regards to Fox's perpetual rights to Episode IV, creates an obstacle for any future boxed set comprising all nine films."
Here is a quote from a NYT article:

"Disney did not say when the service would be compatible with Android-based mobile devices, although a spokesman said the company was in "active negotiations" with other technology partners. Lucasfilm, a Disney unit, is likely to join the service next year, with the release of a new "Star Wars" movie."

I suspect when Lucasfilm joins DMA, we will see some re-release of the SW original franchise with non-theatrical cuts available via DMA.

Yes but again, LucasFilm joining DMA still doesn't change the fact that Disney doesn't own the rights to the first 6 Star Wars films. As the article correctly states, when the new Star Wars movie is released it will be released in DMA, but if the first 6 are to be released through streaming it would be by Fox, at least until 2020.

Disney purchasing LucasFilm didn't negate existing agreements. Fox paid LucasFilm for the rights to those films through 2020 and that stands barring a separate deal.

Re: Is Disney coming out with a bunch more Digital Copy Plus codes

Since Fox controls home video distribution of the STAR WARS movies until 2020, I would presume that Fox will release them next year, prior to Disney's Episode VII, as UV digital releases, the same way IRON MAN was originally released by Paramount. What's confusing is that Episode VII would be released by Disney as a DMA release, not a UV release. However, I suppose it's possible that Disney and Fox could work out an arrangement (i.e. pay off Fox) so that Disney can control distribution for the first 6 films, the same way that Fox and WB worked out an arrangement for WB to release the Batman '66 series on video, thereby making all the films available on DMA only.

                        Absolutely correct!

For further proof of all this, one only needs to look at how the Indiana Jones films are being distributed. Even though Disney bought LucasFilm, IJ is not being sold via DMA because Papamount still controls the home video rights. Star Wars will be the same way...

I believe this to be speculative and would need details about the contract terms to confirm. From what I have read, if a non-theatrical cut was done by LucusFilm in 2015, it could be released via D-Studios. At least there is sufficent speculation out there to make this as reasonable an outcome as it being locked by fox and needing a back room deal to bring over the fence.

I mean at the end of the day, as long as UV and DMA are available on the same service like Vudu, who cares which back end service you are buying it from as long as it's available, and I suspect it will be when Ep VII comes out.

Having said that, a little Google Fu will show that Fox does own Eps 1-6 through 2020. If what you are contesting is whether they or Disney own the original cuts, I have no way to prove it, but am fairly certain that would have been a part of the deal. They would never have paid for the rights to those films knowing that a separate deal could be made with another studio to release different cuts of the films which would compete with them. The language almost certainly would have been that they own any and all versions of the films. I can't imagine a corporation the size of Fox signing off on anything else...

you are probably right. It is just that annoying Italian DMA commercial which doesn't fit the picture. It was probally a mistake.
