...it depends. The AppleTV set-top box connects a TV to the iTunes suite. This includes Home Sharing for playback of media across the LAN and also playback of cloud stored titles.

It is important to me to have a single user interface to access my home entertainment library. Otherwise, remembering which titles is stored on which system becomes an annoyance.

I needed to decide which system to use. The ability to convert my physical media onto a cloud provider's system via D2D made the decision a simple one for me. I just simply could not afford to buy all my titles at full price.

Plus, I think the DECE / Vudu method has some very real value add over the closed Apple iOS approch offered via iTunes / AppleTV.

For me, when I can link my DMA to Vudu, the need for my AppleTV set-top box will drop to close to zero since I will be able to view all the titles I have via Vudu. The only titles I have on iTunes are Disney digital copies.

Other people may be more invested in an iTunes library and only Disney offering pass through would be insufficient for them.

I am pretty sure it will have the same streaming services it did before, just that in addition to Chromecast and Apple TV there will be another provider to stream DMA movies. If your iTunes library is only Disney movies, you may have limited or no use for the Apple TV, depending on what you like to use to stream.

The apple TV does allow switching between 2 user ID's and libraries, so this would be a way to share your DMA library with a family member that has an Apple TV, if Disney movies are not part of Vudu library sharing (they are not UV, so following the current pattern, they would not be shared).

In my opinion I don't think this will be the case, Disney codes for 3D movies redeemed on Vudu do not currently give 3D copies. Probably means if you buy a 3D movie on Vudu it will feed in to DMA.

Re: Is Disney coming out with a bunch more Digital Copy Plus codes

Just to add to the DMA expansion of Vudu's library, there are now 2D/3D bundles for the below titles:
          1. Toy Story
          2. Toy Story 2
          3. Toy Story 3
          4. Finding Nemo
          5. Up
          6. Cars
          7. Cars 2
          8. Planes
          9. Planes: Fire & Rescue
          10. Monster's Inc.
          11. Monster's University
          12. The Little Mermaid
          13. Brave
          14. A Christmas Carol
          15. The Avengers
          16. Bolt
          17. Meet the Robinsons
          18. Tron
          19. PotC: On Stranger Tides
          20. John Carter
          21. Alice in Wonderland
          22. The Nightmare Before Christmas
          23. Chicken Little
          24. Frankenweenie
          25. G-Force
          26. Mars Needs Moms
          27. Jonas Bros: 3D Concert
          28. Hanna Montana: Best of Both Worlds Concert
          29. GotG
          30. Wreck-it Ralph

From what I can tell, this constitutes the bulk of the Disney Studios 3D title offerings now on Vudu in 2D/3D bundles.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Vudu is the only streaming vendor who offers 3D playback.

I do not know of any other service that offers 3D streaming. I have a 3D TV and have thought about trying to stream a 3D title I am just not sure about it. Have a you tried it or know anyone who has?

I do not have a 3D TV. I suspect what we are looking at with all these new 2D/3D Disney bundles is the two companies getting their ducks lined up for a marketing push. If I had to guess, Disney will highlight the 3D options when they announce their Vudu partnership next Tuesday.

Yes, I am able to stream a 3D movie from Vudu on my Mitsubishi TV and also via my Oppo BD player. Of course, I prefer the Oppo because it runs through the A/V receiver and thus gets better sound. The TV will only output stereo.

I you are right the smell of a huge marketing push is in the sir no doubt. I think some of the bundles are not even able on disc. I don't think Frozen or Maleficent has a 3D combo pack.

Somebody on another forum claimed that a DMA rep confirmed to him that Vudu would be joining and that they would be offering some sort of Disc to Digital program. We don't know what that will consist of, if it is true, but I wouldn't be surprised if they at least offered digital copies of registered discs for $5.00 like they apparently did in the past.

It would be ideal if they really offered a true D2D program, especially with all the Hollywood Films and Touchstone movies being part of it, but I'll believe that when it happens.
