    VUDU branded "Spark" Streaming Stick...

Walmart's got a Chromecast-like dongle for its Vudu video service

Only way I see this flying is if Walmart sells it for significantly less than other dongles (mainly Chromecast). With Vudu apparently about to become the only dual UV/DMA member, a cheap Vudu-only dongle might work for some people. Otherwise, why would anyone buy this if they can get Vudu and other streaming providers on a Chromecast or Roku Streaming Stick?

Interesting. Since it's a "One Trick Pony" it should not be priced no more than $9.97.

I would think they could offer it for free with purchase of certain movies or perhaps buy say $50 in Vudu Gift Cards and get a free Sparks.

The concern is here is not that it will come to market, or even get into customers hands; it's that it needs to get used instead of put into a drawer.

If they sold a 100,000 of them for $10 each and people just put them in drawers they could be at a total loss afetr considering all costs.

I know plenty of people that bought a Roku (edit) stick but no one that's using one.

What's a VUDU stick? Or do you mean Roku stick?

At least it has a Remote. I hate using the Chromecast because no remote.

I agree. I like the "ability" to stream and control from the phone or tablet but I still want a regular remote, even if it's an option.

THAT Vudu remote however, looks like a child remote. I'm sure they needed to cut corners but a more refined and attractive layout / color scheme could have been done for the same price.

With all these devices there is one thing missing pre-programed or learning to control power on/off and volume.

Then you could have one remote if you wished and if you're trying to get people to buy a cheap item to say just plug on a TV you need to make it simple and cheap. Buying a third remote (TV, Vudu Stick, and Universal) is not the option.

Roku tried to avoid this pitfall by using MHL HDMI but no one adopted MHL on their devices you it just failed.

It would be cool if they had a way to sign-in to networks that have a login page (hotels, dorms, etc).

Agreed. Not something I use much personally. Esp since I can hotspot my phone. However, I do know a ton of people that do use they type of devices when they travel or WANT to but can't because there is no browser to approve the sign on to the hotel "terms and conditions agreement" page.

I'm currently using a Roku stick which is nice because you don't have to worry about carrying around an HDMI and/or an Ethernet cable when traveling. I also have a Roku 2 and Roku 3.

Question for you. What to you do about power?

Do you take a USB and USB/AC adapter with you?

Or just the USB cable and hope that the TV has USB on it.

I really wish that regular (non MHL) HDMI handled power too.

I take the USB cable and wall adapter with me as it's no different then taking the USB cable and/or wall adapter with you for your smartphone. The wall adapter is pretty compact and as small if not smaller then some of the newer wall adapters for smartphones. It's actually smaller then the power supply for the standard Roku models. You can see the adapter pictured here:

                        https://www.roku.com/accessories#accessories-hdr

I should say that if you have one of the compact HDMI cables then it's not that big of deal to take that with you. Apple sells one, as do some other brands, as seen here:

                        http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...dmi-cable-18-m

However, the Roku stick still has a much smaller form factor overall compare to its bigger brothers.

I'm at Walmart right now, vudu spark is $25 with $20 movie credit included. Stocked next to Chromecast

I hate Roku, Chromecast support on vudu sucks, and no vudu support on FireTV, so I'm hoping this fills the gap...

I heard that the movie credit is only good for new customers. Can you confirm or deny that?
