Did Vudu just give up on UHD?

Today marked the digital release of various UHD films, that were released in 4K elsewhere. These titles include:

    Only the Brave (Sony)
A Bad Moms Christmas (Universal Studios)
    Suburbicon (Paramount Pictures)
    Cloverfield (Paramount Pictures)
    10 Cloverfield Lane (Paramount Pictures)
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (Warner Bros.)

Also the discs that came out today, that have been UHD elsewhere:

    Jigsaw (Lionsgate)
Goodbye Christopher Robin (20th Century Fox)
    Earth: One Amazing Day (BBC)
Thank You for Your Service (Universal)
    Groundhog Day (Sony)

and then there's releases the week before that:

    Loving Vincent (Cinedigm)
    Beyond Skyline (Vertical Entertainment)
    Happy Death Day (Universal Studios)
    The Snowman (Universal Studios)

and catalog titles in general from studios.

None of these were made available on Vudu. I want to support Vudu so badly, but how can I when content isn't even made available? You don't upgrade titles like iTunes does, so I can't buy these HDX versions knowing full well that 4K versions are available to own digitally. It's embarrassing that FandangoNow seems to have more titles now, and their streaming service is almost unbearable to use, yet they have content support. I feel that I and many others have been very patient in waiting for 4K content, I thought the HDR support would mean more content, not less. I noticed that competitors also list 4K titles without HDR at all, why isn't that an option here? It would be nice being able to at least buy now in the highest resolution while we wait for HDR issues to be sorted out, if that is the case.

At the very least I expected Gotham by Gaslight to be available in UHD today, since it is Warner Bros. I love Vudu, but please realize that many of your users want 4K content, now, not weeks or months or years after they're available elsewhere.

Yes, Vudu MUST step up their game on 4K or they are going to lose customers. There is clearly not enough effort, or manpower, to keep up with the 4K content.

I've been shocked by their lack of 4K titles lately. I used to make almost all of my digital purchases on Vudu, but they've lost a ton of money from me to iTunes recently. I don't know what's going on, but they need to get back on track. They went from having the most 4K titles online to being blown out of the water by iTunes. And while Apple is being aggressive and picking up 4K content nobody else has, Vudu's selection is languishing.

        I also wonder this.

Couldn't agree more! iTunes is now my go-to retailer with UHD. It's not even so much the "free" upgrades at iTunes....but it seems that almost every new release that comes to iTunes is in 4K HDR. Along with the frequent back catalog additions......iTunes is killing it on 4K and Vudu is sadly being left behind.

Almost a year and a half after the 4K movie originally released.... I guess that means we'll see Only the Brave by mid 2019.

EDIT: Vudu, y'all are too much. Adding it after I said it was coming in 2019.

I suspect that Apple is losing money to build market share for Apple TV. That competitive pressure will eventually cause the other service providers to match Apple.

Vudu is 100%, absolutely, definitely, fo'sho NOT giving up on UHD.
Many of the titles listed in this forum will be available soon.
We know getting 4K available on the same date as release for digital or disc is extremely important. Unfortunately, many times things can go wrong from the technology, process, quality control or studio approval, or other standpoints that delay release. Unfortunately, more than you'd expect, we have no control over those factors.

Thank you all, though, for staying with Vudu, on top of things, and sharing your frustrations. Your feedback is noticed and does help us keep us (and our partners) focused.

Thank you for posting, can Vudu please also look into adding UHD TV content? FandangoNow has done it with a few releases, but it would be nice to have Westworld in UHD, since it was released on 4K disc with 4K digital rights. Planet Earth 2 has also been released on Amazon and Netflix in 4K.

Awesome, glad to see it available on the week of release. This is the type of thing I like to see Vudu.

Thank you for the update Jeffrey. People have to realize that this is not as simple as flipping a switch. Because if it was, Vudu would have certainly done it!. It is in Vudu's best interest to provide the best quality video and sound to it's customers.

This is good to see, but from a consumer point of view it's kind of confusing when many or all these titles are on simultaneously on iTunes, FandangoNow, and Google Play instantly upon release and Vudu doesn't have them. Certainly hope to see the situation get better soon.
