"New" VUDU APP inconsistent and painful to use.

    Hello All,

I've tried to get traction for this in the "Is Vudu not compatible with Roku anymore?" thread but it's been a few weeks and nothing. Vudu is my primary app for movies and just lately it's become pretty unusable. I wanted to get this out there and see if anyone is having a similar experience as I am.

Since the UI upgrade last year I have had nothing but issues. Primarily on Roku, but the app is no holiday on other devices, either. I will list my experiences below.

    ROKU:
    1. It's a lottery if the app will even open. It will hang on the loading screen opening, it will say please wait or will just roll.
    2. It can take up to a minute to show movie lists. Sometimes it will say no movies at the minute but when clicking between tabs the list will appear.
    3. My movies list generates pretty quickly, but when scrolling down it will show blanks or will hand or the description will hang on the previous selection for a minute or two.
    4. When a movie is selected for viewing, I have to hit play multiple times. I was thinking it was locked but you can still move the selection around.
    5. Movies stop with a network error but there has been none, I can instantly resume.
    6. UHD movies buffer for ages and eventually error or will open in SD. I can instantly switch it to UHD in the drop down of the movie.
    7. UHD movies and subtitles. I have a hearing impaired partner and we use the closed captions a lot. It drives me mad that the CC timing does not match the audio. It's off about half a second. This happens quite a bit but can sometimes be solved but rebooting the ROKU.
    8. Random network errors, where movies will not play but I can do the quality test from within the app and be maxed out for the whole test and it will suggest UHD. I have 150Mb wired connection, and do not have any restrictions on my router.

With all the above problems sometimes it becomes frustrating and unusable. At first I thought it was my Roku 4, so I purchased a brand new Roku ultra (I have a 4K UHD TV and need those options) the problem continued on the new device. I have reinstalled the app multiple times. For one week around Xmas, after a update, the app ran flawlessly/better. Then I think there was another update because it died a death again.

    Mobile experience:

I have all Android devices (either on Nougat or Oreo) and have similar UI lags, either through LTE or wireless connections. The app is just slow. To be honest I do not watch many movies this way. And when I do I download them.

To get round the above I have been using the Movies Anywhere app and it functions like a dream. It doesn't show all my movies however or handle 4K or HDR.

Please help, I miss my Vudu collection.

I use Vudu on my Roku 3, Roku streaming stick (3600RW), and the built-in app on my Samsung 4K TV, and I haven't experienced any of those problems. The only time I've ever had issues with the Vudu app being slow, it was a very old early model of Roku that I have since replaced.

I'm having issues with the VUDU app on my Xbox 1 X, but they've said it's an issue with my fiber internet service from AT&T running at 1Gbps speeds. However, no other streaming service is having an issue on the same device.

I've been told the same thing and they even took all the diagnostics on my network, though I don't have issues with other streaming providers on the device.

I recently complained about this on another forum topic, but yea, since the release of the "NEW" and less improved Vudu, everything is slower than crap. I am having many if not all of the same issues described by the first post. It can take 30 secs. plus just for movie titles to load, 30 secs. plus just to see the description of a movie, if I switch to it. I have a 50 MEG internet connection and I have tried Vudu on different devices and all act in a similar fashion. So, I check Vudu out at work where I have a 100 MEG connection. Vudu isn't any faster there. I have tested this on my brand new Sony 4K Smart TV, Roku 4K STB, on my laptop right on the Vudu website, all slow. The other night, it took me 5 to 6 attempts to get (1) movie to play. I kept getting a "Failed to play movie" error. All other apps like Hulu, YouTube, Netflix do not seem to have any problems at all. Just Vudu and only after the "NEW" version was released. Before that, Vudu was very fast and I had no problems to speak of.

Jonathan, I am feeling your pain but my problems only started about a month ago. My VUDU ap on the Roku is a crap shoot that that has become unusable. Nothing on my end has changed but it is seldom that I can even get to the main menu and then it just spins when I try to load anything. "Running VUDU movies" is what I get while it spins into eternity. I have tried unplugging and resetting but this has done no good. I'm especially peeved since I buy my TV seasons thru them and have been unable to watch the episodes. Any luck on a fix or any sort?

I have the same issue on my xbox one and my brand new Samsung 4k tv internal app. When i click on a movie, i just see a blue screen with a white outline box where splash art should be. The mobile app on IOS is never sluggish and always works, but xbox one and samsung always bad. I have 75mb internet in the OKC metro and Google Play, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Youtube all run flawlessly on my tv and internet. When i start a movie on Vude in 4k or HD, it never has an issue, but the app is extremely sluggish. I cant search any new movies. I have to hold power button down on my remote to hard reset my tv several times before i can finally search for movies.

There is nothing wrong with your internet. The current Roku VUDU app is an utter and borderline unusable mess and has been for a few months now. They need to ditch the current version and roll back to the previous version since this one is apparently unfixable.

Oh, I'm fully aware there's nothing wrong with my internet, I was being sarcastic since they don't want to admit the new format is causing the issue, even though there are people having issues with it on multiple devices. If my internet were the issue then all of my services would be showing problems, not just VUDU.

As much as I hate to say it, VUDU did promise in an email a couple months back...(A NEW EXPERIENCE COMING SOON!)...not what we were hopeing for, but with all the issues pileing up, it's quite the experience for sure! smh

Welp, I have 3 Samsung Smart TVs, a PS3 and a Sony BluRay with SMARTapps built in and they have all run like crap (Movie titles sometimes show, movies rarely start on first launch, constant buffering, etc.) since December. At first, I thought it was the Christmas Holidays and everyone was pounding their site but it has not gotten better since then. I wrote VUDU and they wanted me to run several different Speed Tests and Diags even though Netflix, Movies Anywhere and Amazon Prime are extremely well-behaved. I have stopped viewing and buying through VUDU until they fix it. Even their mobile app has gone to crap and it used to be the best one out there...using Movies Anywhere now.

Apparently Vudu doesn't care about video streaming anymore. They are behind the times with an 8 device limit! Its just 3 of us in our household, but all have a smart phone and ipads. Add the fact I have 6 rokus (living room, 3 bedrooms, my office/study, back patio)....well... that's 12 devices. Hey Vudu, how out upping your device limit to, let's say 15... sure go ahead and make it only 2 or 3 streams the same time. Oh, and go back to your old interface, the new one sucks and doesn't work.

These are all happening to me too now. We use Vudu just about every day and I believe this started for us within the past few weeks. Experiencing all of these:

Knock wood that I don't seem to be having these issues with Vudu on my Roku and thankfully so since the Vudu app is not compatible at all with my Nexus Player and basically hasn't been for years.

How in the world does Walmart, who actually has a partnership with Google have a steaming service that is not compatible with Google's Android TV streaming device? The Vudu Android TV app is compatible with other Android TV OS boxes including cheap Chinese knock offs and Amazon Fire TV, a direct competitor to Vudu. Explain that?

When and if Vudu on my Roku does't work well I will have no where to watch my Vudu library which I spent a lot of money building. And people wonder why Apple TV and iTunes is what everyone is moving to.

Similar problems here. Sony TV, old app won't support UHD playback. I downloaded the new and so called improved app and was exited when my UHD movie immediately started playing...until it just stopped during opening credits. Third time it stopped I got a network error message even though my network is rock solid
