He is technically right though. Chromecast Ultra is on their published supported list of devices. If it hasn?t worked for 3 months, they are not giving the service we paid for. To refuse refunds for services not received must be illegal. Bait and switch. False advertising. I?m just likely giving up on the hopes of Dolby Vision and Atmos simultaneously. And since There is now a 5th retailer in Movies Anywhere, I will give that a shot. UHD at Vudu and Apple has been a nightmare.

Movies Anywhere is not a retailer (they don't sell, only refer you to other retailers), and they don't fully support 4k yet. They just pass along 4k licenses to the connected retailers for now. 4k Playback is coming soon through them but their app is not widely available on many devices (enter the Chromecast once again).

There are only two retailers that are really behind 4k in a major way right now - Vudu and Apple. Fandangonow is a distant third and pretty new to the game. And Vudu and Apple are working aggressively to add new features (such as HDR and device support).

4k is still in its infancy and there are still several bugs to be worked out. Remember 'Profiles' in Bluray? And those slips that came in every bluray warning you to upgrade your firmware and/or the disc may not play. They don't matter anymore but back in the day 10 years ago, there were plenty of bugs and issues with Bluray.

The point I am saying is you can complain all you want , but I can assure you if the fix was a simple one it would have been released already. Jake could probably sneeze on a normal pesky bug and it would be squashed in an instant.

There are growing pains to every new format, and this is one of them unfortunately. Vudu didn't sell you the Chromecast so they cannot refund you for that. If you paid for a UHD movie recently they can probably refund you for that though if you call in and explain the situation.

You can now cast UHD from a PC. We are still working on the mobile device casting issue, no ETA.

My Sony Tv with built in Chromecast streams movies in UHD, but it sends me an error message after 30 seconds. It says,

            PLAYBACK ERROR
Sorry, the video player has stopped working. Please Try again.

Doesn't really look like it has been truly fixed.

Also, the cast does not display with *HDR. Is there a reason for that?

                        Hello Johnboy and sgperez90

Thanks for the info I will try to reproduce with the Sony TV I have in our lab.

As for DV/HDR that is already enabled and supported for casting. I have noticed that Google has problems detecting the capability of TVs that are used to cast and TVs that Chromecasts are connected too. They don't detect the HDR capability of the TV properly so the wrong HDR or no HDR is streamed.

I will look into seeing if there are some options that can be adjusted on the TV to force HDR casting on the Sony TVs.

                        Thanks,
                        Tam

When you are casting I assume this is a CCU to a TV (not builtin Sony/Vizio cast?) What is you TV model? Or if you have a more complex setup (CCU -> receiver -> TV, CCU -> TV -> receiver ARC, etc) could you describe it?

We reproduced this on a CCU with a 2016 LG TV, but with some other models it does play DD+ just fine. This would mean that for some reason the Chromecast thinks the TV does not support DD+ over HDMI, which it should...

It's a Vizio "P" series display. I tried using the Chrome browser on my PC to cast to the CCU. Should I be using another browser or the Vudu app in Windows?

I casted from vudu.com via Chrome Browser Version 65.0.3325.181 (Official Build) and was able to stream UHD for over 5 minutes with no disconnects. I streamed Justice League, Thor Ragnarok and the Princess Bride. Can you tell me the title you are trying to CAST. Can you also check your Chrome Browser version.

The Sony TV I tired was a Sony 55A1E and a Sony 800E.

                              Thanks

                                Hello lujan
So you are doing ARC out of your Vizio P series to a receiver? If you use the Vudu App on the Vizio P series does it output the correct audio?
Can you tell me your receiver model as well.

I casted from the Chrome Browser to a Chromecast Ultra and was able to get all the expected audio formats when connected to a receiver. I will check the casting to a Vizio TV.
