    PUrchase option after rental?

THis is a feature I would like to see....suppose I rented a title, and really enjoyed it. If the title was available for purchase generally, could I use my rental fee as credit towards purchase within a time frame? Say one week? That would be really cool.

I agree. It's kind of like with iTunes where you can buy a song and then later decide to "complete" the album by reducing the purchase price by the amount you already paid for the song.

Great idea, the biggest problem I see is the way the studio contracts work. From what I've been told, the studio rental agreements are with a different department than the studio purchase agreements. This complication is why we have so many titles that are "rental only" or "purchase only" - Vudu has to get the rights from both departments. So, offering the purchase upgrade option would require the guys in the rental department of the studio to be willing to give up part of their revenue to the purchase department. This type of departmental conflict is not unusal for larger companies, and leads to all types of insane situations from the consumers perspective.

That depends entirely on the studio. Larger studios like WB, it's almost certainly the case. Indie guys are much more flexible. If approached, I gaurantee some would be interested.

So why does no one from Vudu read and comment on suggestions like this? It is a good idea.

I would LOVE this option! We have done this with a few movies, and to have the price of the movie reduced, even if it was only by a couple of bucks, would be a great deal.

Actually, this feature already exists, the problem is it's only for titles that are approved for the feature by the content owner (studio), which is still a pretty small list. The issue is EST (electronic sell-through, aka purchases) are often distributed by a different group (or sometimes even company!) from VOD rentals, which can make things really tricky...

Jake, can you give us some examples of some movies where this feature exists?
