Re: Official iPhone App Discussion and Support Thread

There was an older app that let you search the catalog and rent/purchase/queue dowload to a vudu stb. There's a new one that was apparently released 1-6-12. According to the reviews there was an initial problem with it. As of today it was able to stream my library. As the name implies, it is only a viewer. AirPlay video would be cool. But, studios.

Not that you would want to do this unless you had unlimited data, but is it strange that you get a message that says you have to be on WIFI to watch any of the movies through the app ?

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the VUDU Player 2.0 app update for iOS finally hit the App Store today! Adds iPhone 5 screen size support, offline download and playback and Closed Captioning for iPhone. Not sure what took them so long, but there you go...

On my iPhone 5 w/6.1.4 on wifi and LTE the new app just hangs on the splash screen after login.

How many times can a movie be downloaded? AND how many times can an UV account download a movie? Does it matter if it is UV?
Basically if "we" own a movie on an UV account is there a limit of downloaded and if so is it each or per account? Also, will there always be one left for a streaming version? Is there a way to tell how many times a movie has been downloaded?

These downloads are not related to UV, they are for purchased Vudu movies (which will include UV movies added to a user's Vudu library from UV, but it's an important distinction...)

UV downloads will be in the CFF format, which should start becoming available later this year.

                      Jake,
Any chance you can fill us in on how Vudu downloads will be handled after CFF? As most of us here know, not all movies on Vudu are UV, is it likely that those that are UV will be strictly delivered in CFF? I know I plan to download my UV/CFF films to a 4TB NAS and distribute them to my devices from there, when desired, but will we still be free to download within Vudu's apps without costing a CFF dl?

I know thats a lot of questions that may be unanswerable, but any info is appreciated.

Well, given CFF files will be created by the studios and provided to retailers (so this will be a gradual process, not "all UV titles available as CFF at once) - and as you say not all VUDU movies are UV - I would imagine the current "VUDU download" feature will be around for quite a while. I can't really say (because I don't know) what will happen in the longer term, though I'm sure a goal will be to make it as easy to use and consistent as possible

Re: Official iPhone App Discussion and Support Thread

I don't know if this is a fluke or not but I upgraded this app and then downloaded a movie to try this out on.
The movie I downloaded actually was a movie that happened to have been started and watch about half way through on my TV.
So I was quite surprised when I started the downloaded movie it started right up where the movie had been stopped when watching it on the TV.

I guess this could be a good thing in case you have to leave and want to finish watching the movie somewhere other than at home. On the other hand it seemed odd that there would still be a connection to the movie viewing location when the file was downloaded.

I was trying to watch a downloaded movie on my iPad while wandering the hotel doing exercise and laundry. Every time the hotel wifi disconnected, the movie would stop and pop up an error that it lost the network. Obviously I'm watching the download, so why do you need the network? Why stop the movie at all? I finally turned off wifi on my iPad, just to make it stop complaining. Not sure if this is a bug, but it's sure poor from a usability prospective.

After turning off the Wifi did you have any problems playing the movie?

So I just tried here at home, the question I recently asked in my last post, and sure enough after turning off my WiFi I can't play a downloaded movie. Tells me I lost connection. Turn the WiFi back on and it starts right back up.

This is a big failure. How is this any different that what we had before ?
Sure I can actually download the movie, but I still need WiFi to play the movie? What gives. Might as well save my storage space and just stream it.
