Vudu refuses to help unless Blu-Ray was bought at Wal-Mart

    See here's a fun one.

In all the years I've been with Vudu this is the first time I've Vudu CSR state they refuse to get involved unless the the physical movie was bought at Walmart. Since I bought it from Amazon they wont help.

The code can not be redeemed on the studio site as the studio just redirects to Vudu for redeeming. But Vudu prompts with the error "promotion not found", not "code is not valid" or "somethings not right, re-enter your code".

Contacted studio and they state issue is on Vudu site. Vudu wants me to get a new code from Studio but it (initially) didn't return a code not valid error so this will just happen again.

What's up with the "since you didn't purchase from Walmart we can't help" ?

I received this same reply recently on an issue.

Have you tried using the code on MA... I realize that won't port it to UV if it is a MA/UV code, but may be an alternative to getting the code to work.

What seems stupid is that it's the same box at both stores and the code slip inside Vudu's statement makes no sense. It made sense when they said you had to goto the studio in all cases but now they check to who you bought it from and if it's not Walmart then they sent to the studio. What happens if you did buy it from Walmart. The code is still from the studio.

No, it wouldn't work on MA.

This WAS our policy for years but this has recently changed as mrewster has indicated in the post above. Please PM me your ticket number and I'll see what I can do for you. Sorry for the inconvenience and confusion.

I've also experienced the "Promotion not found" error (I believe it was for "The Founder"), and it burned the code. This seems to be an issue with Vudu & not any particular retailer or Studio. Thanks for the policy change, but I don't understand how Vudu wasn't responsible because of where the item was purchased. Too late for me I guess, I've long since tossed the slip & have repurchased the title.

I have a couple tickets too. They keep telling me, only specific retailers are supported. I assume they mean just Walmart. What I don't get is how that could even be legal in the first place. For example, there are only two places where you can redeem UV codes and digital is advertised on the movie case as being included and with NO mention of restrictions on where you buy it.

I received this reason as well on one of my issues.

                  Unless I misunderstood something......

Why is vudu burning codes at all? If the code isn't valid at vudu, vudu should not burn/invalidate the code.

And if vudu does burn the code, should they not be responsible for providing a replacement since no customer would know ahead of time that vudu was going to invalidate the code without redeeming for the applicable title?

                  That is insanely terrible.

While unfortunate, my understanding is if there is an issue with a code and the disc was purchased anywhere but Best Buy, Target, Amazon, or Walmart, then there will be no support.

Actually any issues with codes should be handled by the studio and not the retailers. That's who I always contact with code issues.

Totally agree. But keep in mind some studios (Like Fox) will not help for a code issue at VUDU. And if attempting to get help from VUDU, then any Fox title issues experienced hopefully are from a title purchased from the aforementioned retailers.
