The starter pack is not currently being offered with new account creations. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If the starter pack is no longer available then why do they continue to send e-mails out telling you to complete your sign up to redeem your 5 free movies. I have received 3 of these reminder e-mails in the past month. Seems like false advertisement and very frustrating!!

Could you send me a private message including the email? We would like to take a look.

That's very frustrating news. I just signed up a friend last night with the promise of free movies to get his collection started, and afterwards, just like the OP, couldn't find any reference to them. Wish I'd known that before putting my foot in my mouth (my fault for assuming and not checking first).

I'm not certain, but a quick look around seems to show that the other services have also removed their sign-up freebies.

Flixster used to be the king of (SD) freebies and they've since stopped with them. I think they removed all of their freebie stuff on their app and website. Target Ticket went the way of the Dodo. Cinemanow was bought out by someone or something like that and the freebies disappeared. Vudu also got rid of them. They were all nice incentives to join the websites. Vudu still ended up being the website I (and a lot of others) ended up sticking with. Seems like the only legit way to get freebie movies now is if you were lucky enough to be invited to join the Warner A-list (Christmas freebies) and Viggle.

Sounds like Vudu being total cheapskates. Way to go making the service better! I'm sure more people will want to sign up knowing they get nothing to start with.

So, anyone who doesn't give away free stuff is a cheapskate?

I'd rather get a really good value for my dollar on all of my everyday transactions, but that's just me. I don't cast aspersions on companies that overcharge or have poor service, I just don't use them.

I think the fact that they could stop the freebies shows the stength in the service and its ability to stand on its own.

Plus, as I stated above, everyone stopped giving freebies. There's no real competitive reason for the freebies anymore. The other sites are no longer using freebies as an incentive to join. Vudu's not alone in this.

Is it really going to cost Vudu much to give away a few movies to join up? I'm amazed at customers defending and supporting the company taking away a nice joining incentive. As a customer you should want extra benefits from a service for yourself and others, not applauding them giving out less and taking away something that used to be a nice benefit. Pretty strange mentality in my opinion.

I'm pretty happy getting a good value overall, as I said, and VUDU's at-home D2D is still an amazing deal compared to other services. I did enjoy getting free movies, and I signed up to test Flixster as much for the free movies as I did to test it out, but I'm not surprised or perturbed when a sale or special deal ends, otherwise it wouldn't be a sale or a deal but a regular feature.
