    Alternating Aspect Ratios

Sorry if this has been discussed, but why are the digital copies of these movies missing the AAR?s? I don?t have Interstellar, The Dark Knight, or Dark Knight Rises so I cant speak for those. However, I do have Dunkirk and the digital copy does not change like the 4k blu ray does. Is there some technical reason why?

Doing so on streaming would require a separate encode. Not to mention, most consumers would likely complain about it.

I seem to remember Dark Knight & possibly Interstellar jumping back & forth from full to letterbox & back on the Vudu stream. I'd have to go back to make sure. Wasn't this due to showing full frame of the IMax cameras or something?

Complain? Most users wouldn't notice. Transformers 5 on iTunes has the alternating Aspect Ratios. I?ll check if Vudu does as well. This makes the 4K blu-ray versions preferable for movies with alternating Apect Ratios.

I would prefer a technical response from Vudu.

I would rather the digital streaming versions match the blu rays. If the actual goal is to match or make content ?just as good,? I?d rather they match the aspect ratio shifts as well. It does make the discs preferable

I can confirm that Transformers: The Last Knight does have Alternating Aspect Ratios on Vudu. So the question is why Interstellar and The Dark Knight didn't get these encodes. It seems it's possible to have the digital version with the alternating Aspect Ratio.

I for one would complain of the aspect ratio shifting of a movie. I hated it on Dark Knight and because of that have absolutely refused to purchase it. Even went so far as complaining to studio. If I wanted iMax ratio I would buy or watch the iMax version.

I think you are in the minority with regards to that opinion. Hence why movies afterwards still have alternating Aspect Ratios.

Yes, I think so as well. I love the iMax scenes on Intersteller, and the two Dark Knight movies.

Add Dunkirk, Star Trek: Into the Darkness, Captain America: Civil War (3D), and Thor: Ragnarok (3D) to the list. All these IMAX scenes look great!

I didn't realize there were so many? Is it only the disc on "Thor: Ragnarok" or are the IMAX scenes available on the digital copy as well?

just the 3D disc. I don?t know why these scenes are not added to the 4k blu ray or the streaming encodes.

You don't really see it as often on standard Blus. It's more limited to 3D discs.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example.

I would love the IMAX scenes to switch ratios for these title's UHD digital copies....but I did hate it during Transfomers The Last Knight, as it was rapidly changing, and very irritating.

As the film maker intended is what they should be so the changing ARs should be intact.
