Captain America: the First Avenger really dark

I was watching the first Captain America on vudu. It is really dark. Like I thought my tv was messed up from the power going out or something. Then I remembered the first Thor was really dark on vudu. Switched over to fandangonow and it is night and day. It makes me sad when vudu, my preferred provider has issues like this. Anyone else notice this or am I crazy?

I can't speak to The First Avenger, but the gamma on Vudu's copy of Thor is definitely messed up. It suffers from crushed blacks and a limited dynamic range.

As you say, it is night and day when compared to other streaming services or the Blu disc.

Sorry, I didn't reply. When I said night and day I meant between Vudu and Fandangonow.

And I meant between Vudu and every other source for Thor.

I'm seeing what you're talking about with Thor too. Thor on Vudu looks awful on my Roku, PC, and Samsung TV, but looks great on all the other MA partner services.

Can someone fix this? It's especially noticeable how bad Vudu's copy looks in the Jotunheim scenes that take place after the 17 minute mark. It's impossible to make out details because of how dark Vudu's copy looks.

Keep your fingers crossed that some time in the near future these titles with dark issues get a UHD upgrade and a new encode implementation. As for viewing in HD my advice would be to do so at a retailer and/or with ever device one chooses that best suits yours eyes in the meantime.

That's one of the upsides of Movies Anywhere. When a provider drags its feet on fixing a bad encode you can always just flip to another storefront.

I'd prefer to keep all my viewing on Vudu, but I'll deal with the hassle of switching to another app if it has a properly encoded copy of a film and Vudu does not.
