Vudu Dropping UV from All MA Eligible Fox Titles... And now Universal

Fox UV Status Change Effective 07/11/18
    https://forum.vudu.com/forum/vudu/general-discussion/466485-fox-uv-status-change-effective-07-11-18

As of 07/11/18, Fox titles that are Movies Anywhere-eligible are no longer eligible for UltraViolet. If you purchase, redeem (eCopy, InstaWatch), or convert (Disc to Digital) a Movies Anywhere-eligible title, you will continue to receive the digital copy in your Vudu library. In addition, if you connect your Vudu account with Movies Anywhere, you will receive a digital copy in your Movies Anywhere library. To learn more about Movies Anywhere, visit https://vudu.com/moviesanywhere

If you have further concerns related to Fox titles, please contact the Fox Customer Service team:

    Email: support@foxcustomercare.com

    Call: 888-223-4369, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm PST/PDT
Really? One day's notice? Not even a full day.

P.S. FelipeF I'm still waiting for a HUGE loss of movies, including their UV rights, in my library. I've been waiting for months already. It's like no one even cares about it. Can someone please help get my account fixed??? With this change, I'm afraid that even if it is fixed at Vudu, I'll lose UV rights for Fox titles forever.

More of a heads-up they gave us than when they dropped the "50% off for 10 or more D2D" promotion.

That may be true. But this isn't just a price change. This is a fundamental part of how the movies work in our libraries.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Vudu needs to create a new family/friend sharing service that's not dependent on UV which is clearly being pushed out. From what I've read the other digital retail stores have their own sharing services and none of them require UV so I don't see why Vudu can't work towards the same thing so they can remain competitive. Come on Vudu, don't become the K-Mart of the digital retailers. And now I get to wait to see if the movies I bought with the purpose of sharing with family members continue to share or not after this change goes into effect, fun.

I'm looking at a bunch of my slightly older Fox code inserts and tons of them have UV logos and expiration dates of 2019. (Brooklyn and The Peanuts Movie to name just a couple.) So in these cases, it's a matter of false advertising. They clearly have the UV logo and clearly have 2019 expiration dates, yet there is no way of actually getting UV from them after this change takes effect at Vudu now that FandangoNow has done this already.

If Vudu cared about what you think about this situation, they wouldn't have locked the comments in the original announcement. I'm sure this was a directive from the studio, so there's not much they can do anyway. Same thing has already happened for ALL titles at FandangoNow. If it's MA, it's not UV.

This was more warning than they gave about taking away the ability to add shared accounts. I'd bet Fox's eligibility for D2D will be next, but probably not until the Disney deal is final.

Us long-time customers that mistakenly bought into Vudu's & UV's bait & switch about sharing libraries are just SOL. I guess we should just be happy we have what we have, and new users will never know what they missed...

This doesn't surprise me. If the deal with Disney goes through, this was bound to happen since Disney is MA, and never liked UV.

All I want to say is if these FOX titles lose their UV status, the best Vudu can do is work faster to get these FOX titles added in UHD that are UHD elsewhere. I don't understand it. Disney is buying FOX. Disney currently doesn't allow their titles at iTunes to be 4K, but these FOX titles will become Disney titles. Will they lose their 4K status at iTunes then? Would Disney buying help us get them in 4K here faster?

All this and more, on the next episode of.........

So I don't get what's going on. Are all Fox films losing the UV status or is it just future ones? The post is kind of confusing, at least to me.

Any new purchases of fox titles or codes will no longer be UV if they are MA. If they are not MA enabled, they will give UV rights if applicable. The change does not apply to existing purchases or redeems.

Looks like it only effects future purchases. as all of my existing Fox titles show both UV and MA still

Wow, this is so disappointing to have not even gotten any advance notice of. UV sharing is still the key driving reason I purchase things on Vudu, and this will significantly impact my purchasing habits going forward.

If you have ever redeemed a Fox title (or any title) that is UV and MA, and you redeemed it via MA, it will show you own UV rights, but you won't have them. Just a little FYI for those who weren't aware.

This is not surprising and expect it to come for all MA participating studios soon - so don't wait for 'no warning'. This is the warning. Get what you need in UV NOW because MA studios are not going to be paying for UV redemptions / purchases for much longer. I do not know if studios pay for MA redemptions but they certainly do for UV - and it is shared between the retailer as well - I think it is something like 50 cents total per UV film split between studio and retailer (Vudu in this case).

UV in general WILL be going away I imagine a final phase out happening by the end of this year. So get ready folks, UV Winter is coming.
