Re: Will there be a vudu app for Apple TV?

Well now that (it's speculated) the next Apple TV to be (supposedly) announced on Sep 9th will have an app store it's possible that there could be a Vudu app like there is on the iPhone and iPad, but it's not just up to Vudu to write it but Apple to (choose to) approve it.

Looking to buy the new Apple TV... Does it come with the vudu app or any plans to develop one since now they allow 3rd party developers?

I don't think it's a coincidence that there have never been rent or purchase movie apps on Apple TV, other than itunes. You also don't see itunes on any streaming box other than Apples. Competition is not allowed on Apple TV, never has been. Will that change now? I'm doubting it.

There's never been an App Store on the AppleTV, either. But there is one now. And Apple has said they will accept apps from developers and services that submit them. VUDU is on iOS (for iPhones and iPads) for a long while now, Apple didn't reject it there. I'm thinking we *will* see VUDU on the new AppleTV... sometime in the near future.

Even if you can't buy or rent from Vudu, it would be great to be able to play movies in my collection on Apple TV.

No one wants to pay Apple's commission.

If Vudu offers a free viewer only app the cost is going to be near nil like their iOS iPhone and iPad apps.

I don't "have to have" the purchase and rent functionality my Apple TV 4th Gen like I do on say my Roku 4.

Vudu please port your IOS app and release it into the App Store for the new Apple TV (4th gen). We don't need in-app movie purchasing. It's very easy to just point the trusty old web browser over to the website for purchasing. A watch only app would be perfect solution for the Apple TV. Apple even talks about that when using Siri for movie searching they will point to the free/already owned media before looking for a purchase media option. Since I have a large ultraviolet collection I would like to have access to it with Vudu through my Apple TV. My reward for Vudu is my continued support with future purchases. :-)

Re: Will there be a vudu app for Apple TV?

Sure, but would our VUDU (and UltraViolet) collection be considered "free/already owned media," or "for a purchase media?" I assumed the former was referring to media in iTunes.

I, too, would LOVE to see VUDU support on the new AppleTV 4. I have it installed and love it, especially the precise scrubbing of the timeline when watching a video. It's a great streaming box, in some unexpected ways. But no VUDU app makes me sad. I have a big VUDU library at this point and really want access to it on my AppleTV. Even if it's just "for watching only," with purchasing handled elsewhere, if VUDU doesn't want to pay the 30% Apple tax.

I'm wondering if one of the things holding up VUDU releasing an app for the AppleTV is that universal search function, and the nuances of how it's handled. If I do a search for a film I don't yet own, would it present the iTunes Store, or VUDU, or both? Because if VUDU is playing the 30% Apple tax, at the very least I would expect for it to be an equal citizen on the platform.

Time will tell. Fingers crossed it works out. I'd be SOOOOO happy if Vudu made it's way officially to the AppleTV 4.

I'd hope some day Apple will wake up and set some reasonable tax rate. It doesn't help them to chase away revenue. Of course it's not like they need the money.

I think they are all doing it now. Sells alot of Roku's. If you don't need itunes it has everything.

Contrary to what many had predicted, Amazon IS going to release a Prime Video app for the new Apple TV. Sure wish Vudu would do the same. Vudu needs to compete on all platforms if they want to thrive.

While I remain hopeful -- it's still important to note that this is merely a rumor, based on an unlabelled screenshot of text, purportedly from one random CSR, at Amazon. That is not official confirmation and it might be complete hogwash.

In short: I'll believe it when I see the actual Amazon Prime Video's icon on my ATV4's home screen. Fingers crossed it's right next to a VUDU app, and that we all see them both in the near future.
