Vudu exclusives on new Disney 3D titles preventing 3D blu-ray releases?

It seems the newest 3D Disney movies (Frozen and Big Hero 6) are being released on 3D blu-ray only outside the USA. I contacted Disney about this and they said 3D versions of these movies in the US are only available via Vudu. I am a Vudu customer but I really find it irritating that Vudu seems to be inhibiting the releases of the best quality 3D available ( blu-ray). So, what is the story, Vudu? Did you sign an exclusive deal with Disney that is screwing over 3D blu-ray fans?

I doubt there is any exclusive deal with Vudu/Disney. More like Disney didn't believe physical 3D skus would have enough sell through power in the US to release (3D titles are not what Hollywood once thought they would be).

Vudu is the only digital vendor that I know of that supports 3D streams, so that would be why they are the only one to offer. Since it costs Disney little extra to deliver both versions to Vudu, it works well for both companies creating what appears to be an exclusive.

What in Jiminy Cricket does Vudu have anything to do with Disney's blu-ray plans??? It's more like Vudu is on the only streaming devices that can support 3D (for example Apple TV can't). This is a *bit* of a stretch...

LOL! Even if this is true there is no way they would discuss this publicly on a messageboard. I doubt the mods would know anyways.

It seems unlikely there would be a bigger 3D blu-ray market outside the US. Frustrating.

In case you were just having a bad day and are actually interested in a discussion: VUDU doesn't decide what movies are offered, they sell through pretty much whatever they can license, that's why people were shooting down your conspiracy theory. The problem is that licensing deals aren't actually brokered wholesale by the studios, the licensing for each movie may have to be negotiated separately, even for theatrical vs. director's cuts of the same movie. However, studios can sometimes control the terms of the negotiations, like Disney or MGM staying away from UV.

Regardless of whether these 3D titles are intentionally "exclusive" or not (they are also available on a few other video services), it's been speculated that Disney would like to move to "digital" altogether and this may just be their first step. As my Vudu equipment can't even support 3D, I've been ordering the Blu-Rays from England, and having a very unfavorable impression of Di$ney as a result.

I've heard in the past that piracy is common there, not buying 3D blu-rays. But maybe things have changed...

How do Bluray sales volumes in China compare to the US?

I agree that no exclusive deal exists. Also, the Playstation Store also sells 3D EST movies, including Disney films. Both Frozen and Big Hero 6 are among the Disney films available in 3D thru the Playstation Store.
