Feelings on Vudu- Praise and Criticism!! Asking for a Vudu rep to respond???

I have been with Vudu for a few years now and I truly feel that I am at a crossroads with them. I don't want this post to be a "slamfest" or "criticize completely", but I want to share my honest feelings as a consumer. I am concerned that Vudu is turning a deaf ear and not trying to improve as a company or listen to the needs and wants of his customer base many who are loyal. First, the praise should go to Vudu for outstanding visual HDX pictures of a large majority of TV shows and movies, a D2D service, and a UV provider.

Now, the bad or criticisms- For Vudu itself, frustrated with their lack of attention or service to their Android app. I think many folks including myself enjoy watching their tv shows and movies across a lot of different platforms. I personally watch on my Roku, my Samsung tablet, and my Galaxy S6 Edge phone. This is the issue. Roku app works fine enough for me delivering great ease and picture quality with an occassional reset to help with buffering. Tablet version works fine, but UI definitely needs upgrade. Galaxy S6 Edge version won't WORK AT ALL and hasn't in forever. This is my favorite device to watch things due to the convenience of laying in bed at night and watching shows! I have read the posts about it being a Lollipop or Samsung issue, blah blah blah, but it still has not been fixed. Google play, Netflix, Hulu, and Cinemanow to name a few do not have these issues. But, Vudu has not updated their Android app since December 2014. 8 months of no updates! Do you care about it VUDU? Personally, I have been buying more from Google Play. Their app works on Roku, phone, tablets, etc... Only downside is no UV titles on Google Play which admittedly is a reason I stick with Vudu.

Other issues that never have seemed to get addressed. Still after people request it, no HD streaming on phones or tablets. Again, Google Play and Cinemanow do the trick with this! Why can't Vudu ever give us this? Why can't Vudu gives us sorting capabilities on searches for prices, studios, etc.. I would love to see Vudu have a rewards system that awards points for purchases that can be redeemed later. How about movies or shows that are coming soon?

Sorry for the length of my post, but frustrated. Yes, I know I will get a reply that some things are at the behest of the studios. I just wish Vudu would address these issues firsthand with a FAQ section or post about why Vudu doesn't seem to take these issues seriously. Lastly, I am beginning to worry about the long-term future of Ultraviolet and Vudu. I personally like Ultraviolet, but if Amazon, Google Play, Apple, and Disney never get on board, what does that say about its viability going forward!!!

I can't really give details/ETA, but the Android app is undergoing a complete redesign that will address many of your issues.

As far as Samsung and Lollipop - unfortunately, yes, it was a Samsung bug in their Lollipop 5.0 firmware that broke VUDU movie playback. VUDU has been pushing Samsung for months to fix the issue, and they eventually committed to it in their 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update - which started rolling out last week on the S6/S6 Edge.

Thank you for a response, Jake! My phone has not been given the 5.1.1 update at this time, so maybe soon. I just get frustrated as I like Vudu and I want it to succeed. Any ideas of when HD streaming may be coming to Android phones and tablets??

My biggest criticism is the bare-bones search/sort/filtering offered by the Vudu interface. Whether I'm browsing or searching my collection or the Vudu catalog, for all scenarios we should be able to search and filter by price, studio, release/availability date, UV vs non-UV, etc. We should also be able to exclude TV episodes from our search (or search only for TV episodes for that matter). These are basic features that in my opinion any half-decent interface should have. Yet, even after years of requests and input from users, these features remain absent, which tends to give the impression that Vudu isn't a serious company, or isn't long for this world - I'm not saying, nor do I believe that that is the case, but that's the impression it leaves. C'mon guys - this isn't rocket science . . . except for the unwillingness to commit the appropriate resources, there's really no excuse for not having these features implemented by now . . .

I agree 100%! I love Vudu, but it could be so much better if they would implement these and some other basic features that have been requested over and over again for years by all the very loyal Vudu customers.

Overall I am a very happy Vudu customer. My only continuing gripe is the aspect ratio errors that never get fixed. This is especially irritating as I believe a number of these errors may be internal Vudu errors, and not a problem with the encode as we're often told.

Re: Feelings on Vudu- Praise and Criticism!! Asking for a Vudu rep to respond???

Really only started using the benefits of Vudu a year ago. I don't have too many complaints because I never use the service to watch movies on the go. I'm on the other side of the century mark in age so my VUDU experience is limited to home use and sharing with family members.

Guess my main complaint is seeing folks having to go to Walmart to do the D2D on certain movies. It would be great if it can be done at Wally the exact same movie can be done using home D2D. I could go to Wal-Mart and have for example 'The China Syndrome, a 1979 release) added to my collection but it isn't recognized at home. I get having this ability for newer releases would hurt their business model, but older Catalog stuff is hard to understand.

Edit: I also wanted to add.... the folks at VUDU and those who respond to questions here I applaud you.

Also wanted to add that Samsung has started rolling out 5.1.1 to their S6 devices but it's always up to the carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc) to release them to their customers' phones. The carriers often times add their own apps on top of the Samsung software so it typically takes more time for them to roll it out.

FYI, the advertised VUDU fix (lollipop 5.1.1) still doesn't work. Please address this long outstanding issue.
