Marvel Sale=No love for 4K fans

It blows my mind that Disney decided that there should be no discount on the UHD titles in the Marvel sale. I've been trying to upgrade the titles I already have in this series to 4K, but there is no way that's going to happen at $25 a pop. I can buy the 4K disc/Blu Ray/Digital Code for the 2 previous Avengers Movies from Best Buy for that price. How is this fair to those of us that already own these in HDX? It's like we're being penalized for already buying something.

The problem is even bigger than this. I believe the only MA retailers with ANY clear upgrade path from HD(X) to UHD, or even SD to HD(X) or UHD, are Vudu (usually at full price, frequent sales but not on Disney movies) and iTunes (which auto-upgrades HD titles purchased or sometimes redeemed there to UHD, which is why Disney won't do UHD on iTunes, and occasionally offers other upgrade options). About the only assured upgrade path is redeeming codes from physical discs, but even those have limitations. IMO there should be a small upgrade fee for a one-tier upgrade (SD to HDX, HDX to UHD), with a slightly higher upgrade fee for two tiers (SD to UHD). Digital tier upgrades should be less than full-blown replacement discs (less manufacturing, streaming is more perfectly backwards compatible than discs), but making them free (a la iTunes) only creates animosity with studios who need money to pay for the upgrades; the other MA retailers essentially blocking non-code upgrades altogether (FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, Prime Video, Xfinity) only makes things worse for everyone.

I think all of this "preventing of an upgrade to UHD" by Disney may have something to do with their streaming service that they're going to have by the end of the year.

      235 UHD
      820 HDX
      3 SD

Why would it? Disney has always been out to make the most money from their titles with rereleases and special editions, and putting titles back into the vault to drive up demand. I don't think it has anything to do with their streaming service and really is just business as usual for Disney.

Yes. Vudu is the only retailer that allows upgrades, and I would be surprised if the controlling studios even knew this. I don't think the lack of upgrade options is by design, but rather unintentional limitations inherent in FandangoNow, Amazon & Google's platforms. I really don't get that there is no "upgrade for a fee" option. It's not like upgrading from BR to 4K disc, because in that scenario you end up with TWO copies of the same movie. You are free to sell your obsolete media to help offset costs. Does Disney really think they are making out better by making anyone pay $25 for an upgrade to a movie they already paid $20 for...rather than letting you pay $5 or $10 to upgrade? How can they possibly think this is a profitable business model? Precisely like I said above "no way that's going to happen at $25 a pop."

I doubt one thing has to do with the other. Would they just "prevent you from buying discs" to force you to the stream? Besides, I've not heard that the Disney service will be 4K, have you? More like I said above...I doubt that Disney even is aware you can't upgrade on the other services. They are always slow to the game.

Who knows with Disney? I was just speculating. Being slow to the game is correct with Disney unfortunately.
